Give me inspiration for my first army of 5th edition, having not played/painted since the very early stages of 4th. I'm looking for something that isn't too costly, but that will stand out on the table top and be enjoyable to work on. I get paid friday so that gives you two days to help me out. I always start by buying 1hq and 2 troops, then making up the points 500 so i can play asap. My painting progess will be bloged, and updated daily looking for your c&c.

Either the upcomming IG so you can enjoy the fresh brand new release of the products.

Or Sisters of Battle, because they are rare to see, and even rarer to see painted.

As far as nothing too costly goes, I'd say either Marines or Orks, getting the AoBR box to start. If something less played suits you better, then maybe Nids or Necrons.

How long till the new IG codex is released?

i've already got a squad of SoB, unpainted; in a box somewhere, although they're missing a few backpacks, i wonder if they're available to buy singularly somewhere...

i've certainly considered SMs, just because they've got such a good model range. Not such a fan of orks, too much green.

Crap I thought you were in the U.S. The recent turn of events with the dollar-pound exchange rate means that, if you're willing to buy the gorgon infantry you can get a solid block of 50 guys for ~$70. You'll need to hack them apart and slightly repair them but they're all good if, like me, you don't mind playing with an entire army of guys just standing around.

edit: Sentinels and tanks for the most part. New HQs with extra bits are coming out. Infantry are getting re-boxed into a squad+heavy weapon team so decide if you're interested in lots of bodies and buy the 20-man boxes now if you are.

Recuts of chimera variants : hell hound , chimera , autocannon / heavy bolter / flamers? / plasma / melta variant i heard too.

karskin / storm trooper redone

Lemon russ recuts with variants like chimera.

Catachan / Cadians all recut with new option and command sprues.

strange that the karskin models are being redone, they're some of my favourite models GW has released. I'll have to get a few box sets before they stop producing them...


Maybe a Witch Hunters army without any sisters, using karskins for the troops and employing the help of Space Marines.

Im not 100% sure if its karskin or just storm troopers.

But storm troopers are supposed to be in same kit as arbites.

dark eldar. Plus you get to practice your conversion skills as you try to find a way to make them not look soo ugly.. let me know if it works.

An Eldork ... I mean Eldar army would be good to see. You could fire up a easy 500 point list for them with some nice variety of things to spice up your painting life.

I vote SM, quick cheap, simple to paint, great models and at 500pts still fun to play with.

I would wait till later in the year then start Guard.

As meantioned above the AoBR box could be a great starting point.

1 special character and two box sets = 497 points.

I had a 500 point list around here somewhere... it was the following:

Autarch

6 Fire Dragons

6 Striking Scorpions

5 Pathfinders/Rangers (whatever they're called)

7 or 8 Dire Avengers

I cant remember what they were armed with or what the exact points value is. In fact I think I have this army unpainted and unassembled around here too... haha.

i finally decided on on tau, gonna get the battle force tomorrow, but im also gonna have to purchase some paints, brushes, glue and the codex (anything i'm missing?)

Is there a "how to paint tau" thread by any chance?
