~Inquisitor Falox~
"Where to begin? Well sir, we had received our orders from High Marshall Talvo. He told Col. Mitchem that a storm of Myetic Spores were seen raining down on the planet aprox. 4 clicks from our garrisons position. As we were the forward element we were sent in to investigate. We marched up in a standard line abreast. With the xenos fairly spread out. No Sir, I didn't think it was a serious threat as there did not seem to be too many of them.
The creatures began the engagement with unhuman speed surging toward our lines. It was awe inspiring...
~~~edit: Here the subject was punished for such heresy.
Inq. Falox~~~
They began to rain down this substance most vile onto our positions but casualties were thankfully minimal. However we did notice that one of the larger beasts with a massive weapon lurked in the back and the winged creature disapeared off our scopes. Something was not right....
We began to open fire with everything we had and Emperor preserve us the gunners of the Rus's and the Basilisk were truely well trained. Many of the foul creatures fell in the initial barrages. yet they continued at us with an abhuman determination.
~~~ Note: Here is where I truely began to doubt the subjects faith. All one needs is Faith~~~
It was then that the Col. ordered the rough Riders to engage. With a hoop and a holar they charged off. Then I realized that I would never get the $60 that Telimas owed me..
~~~Again began torture.~~~
They struck home, and you could hear the sickening thuds as the charges on their lances went off with a dull crack with little to no effect. The coms began to fill with screams and requests for help they would go unheaded...
As we waited to charge in we noticed items falling from the sky. Faint at first and then they floated closer and closer into sight. It was then when Cpl. Davis, a veteran of the 12th Tyranic Invasion yelled out "Mines! Col. look out! But it was too late. With an unerring sense of purpose these bulbous sacks decended on the Col.s position and exploded! He seemed fairly unfazed but his entire retinue except the voxman was dead in an instant. It was horrid, body parts all ove....
~~Again, subjects faith is found lacking. Here was had to pause for a day as the subject was inacapable of continuing after receiving the Emperor's Judgement.~~~
It was then that we noticed something moving in the distance near the foothills of the Mountain to the east. More of those vile creatures flanking us! That was when the most vile flying creature swooped down onto our position! How can such beasts be capable of tactics such as this?!?!
Lickily the Leman Rus crew survived the initial onslaught but it was not to last...as more and more of the creatures began to advance on our position.
We were not lax in our duty however and we continued to poor in as much firepower as we could into the creatures. Hope arose when you could see three massive gouts of pure unbridled energy strike the Winged beast yet to no effect....It was then that one the Missile Launcher crews managed to strike the great winged devil with a missile blowing a large chunk from the beast! (Personal Note..the ONLY
wound I was able to inflict on the flyrant....friggin
STR 3).
More and more of the smaller creatures fell and the Col. still seemed confident we could hold our position until reinforcements arrived. The brave rough riders continued to battle on giving as good as they were taking.
It was an honorable sacrafice as I would hate to see what would have happened if that beast had been allowed to continue firing into our positions. However, after missing with the plasma Lt. Falimus charged into the great beast and his cohorts...slaying a few of the lesser creatures but getting cut to pieces allmost immediately after. Also, our poor Leman Rus tank crew could not contain the reactor damage anymore and it blew up leaving a chared wreck behind.
The creatures seemed to realize that the time was right and they began to appear out of nowhere. More mines landed by our rally point and two more medium sized beasts appeared out of nowhere in front of our lines. Many troops began to fall at this point in the battle as they fired as unending stream of toxic acid into our ranks. 2nd Platoon/ 1st Company were charged by the winged beast and 5 of their numbers were instantly slaughtered in a vapor of red gore. However their morale held in some divine miracle and they stayed in the fight buying time for their fellow guardsmen...
Also, it was here that I heard two things..One was our order to engage and second was the last signal from Telimas and the Rough Riders and another horde of the smaller creatures came from behind and slaughtered them to the man... Also, the Basilisk, which had been providing invaluable fire support the entire engagement was struck my some acidic substance that ate into the breach of the main cannon. As the crew valiantly lowered the gun on a flat trajectory and fired into to growing masses of xenos the cannon blew apart showering the battlefield in shrapnel as the entire weapon assembly blew apart! Next came more waves of assault as one of our mortar teams was assaulted by the last remaining small creature. A man died but they held strong.
It was then that the Col issued two orders. 'Alamo' and 'Broken Arrow'.
~~~ It is here when I determined that this poor soul was beyond further service. The Alamo command is understandable as reinforcements were on their way and protecting the approach for the was a sound decision. However, the Broken Arrow command was obviously the rantings of a mind tainted by Xenos Filth. To waste good soldiers lives by calling in ordinance so close to your position was obviouslty the mark of a mind tainted. If the Col had survived he would have been executed.~~~
We continued to fire on the Xenos. Nearly all of the smaller creatures were dead and we attempted to fire onto the large creature on our flank and managed to wound it.
All of our available chimera's moved into a box formation sealing off our position and hopefully buying time for reinforcements. With a defiant yell the Sgt in charge of the Basilisk revved up his engines to try and squash as many bugs as possible under his treads. While not managing to kill any he did prevent them from having easy access into our Alamo site. With most of our men dead there was not much firing as the last remaining Rus had difficulties and could not fire immediately.
After this the creatures had little targets and to shoot at so the began to claw at everything in site. A Chimera, the Basalisk and our remaining Guardsmen were cut down before my eyes. Bloddy and beaten I received one last order from Col. Mitchem to fallback before I saw his chest explode with two curved blades and his body ripped appart before my eyes.
We then proceeded to load back up in our Chimera and head back to the Alamo site. Before we could reach it the side of the tank blew apart as it was immobilized and we knew there was no chance to reach the Alamo site. It was at this time that we began our retreat and reported in.
-------------------------------------
Well it was a close and very, very fun game. Two horde armies duking it out... It wound up as a tie as he only has 2 stealers left and I had my stormtroopers left. (Ripper Swarms cant hold objectives- THANK GOD).
Great game. I did foobar and forget to place a commisar on the board and my Techpriest AND my Lascannon, AND my autocannon...AND I totally screwed up and forgot that with a transport Stormtroopers no longer have infiltrate. BUT they really were not effective and I did forget to place about 150pts. on the board. Squad of the match = Rough Riders. They didnt kill a thing but help up one of his dakkafex's and 2 stealer squads for a few turns (4 for the fex and 1 squad!!!!)
Hope you guys enjoy the report as much as we enjoyed playing it!
