Here's a few pics of my first Blighted Nyss Swordsman. Sort of a test model, if you will. As you can see, he is very WIP.

The skin is about the color I want it, but I may hit it with black wash of some sort. What do you guys think? Comments, criticism, and advice is is very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Hordini

I'd agree with the black wash on the skin, maybe diluting it with a bit of acryllic medium so it's not too heavy. I like the green, but the model still looks unfinished, particularly the sword and scabbard.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Yeah, it's still WIP. I picked up a couple of the new GW washes, Asurmen Blue and Devlan Mud, I'm going to give them a try and see what happens. I'll post pics afterwards.

I'm wondering what to do with the eyes though. I was thinking about leaving them black (soulless Blighted Nyss and all that....lol), but would that just make them look unfinished? Or do you guys think black eyes would be okay on a model like this?

So I did some more work on this guy. He's basically finished now, I just need to finish basing him and hit him with varnish.

As I said before, at tortoise's suggestion, I picked up a couple of GW's new washes and used them on the skin. First a wash of Asurmen Blue, followed by Devlan Mud. I think it worked well, and made the skin "pop" a lot more than it was before.

All comments, criticism, advice and so forth is highly appreciated!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words, if you're referring to my paint job and not just the miniature itself.

Blighted Nyss Swordsmen are an infantry unit for the game Hordes, done by Privateer Press. The faction they are from is the Legion of Everblight. Hordes is a standalone game that is also compatible with Warmachine.

We've got a lot of Warmachine and Hordes players on Dakka who I'm sure could go into a lot of detail on it, if you're interested.

The face really looks better with the wash.

Yes, looks much better! I like the gold highlights added to the green, it provides nice contrast and gives the ble skin tone a bit of pop as well. Are you planning on highlighting the skin after the washes or are you done for now?

Thanks guys. I actually highlighted the skin once more after the washes, so I'm basically done I think. Do you think I should go for another, lighter highlight?
