Today we are forgoing our normally scheduled Quick Tip to bring you something a bit more exciting, our very first Painting Competition, sponsored with prize support by the fine folks over at THQ!

The contest is simple, model and paint a Blood Raven Space Marine using cover in battle! You will have one month from today to turn in both a WIP photo as well as a final contest entry photo of your mini. Once the month is up, we will gather up all entries and the winners will be selected by a panel of judges. Prizes will be handed out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Prizes

First Place receives a T-shirt, Body Warmer, Dog Tag, Rucksack, and a Battlegear Keyring

Second Place receives a Tote Bag, T-shirt, Battlegear Pin, and a Cap

Third Place will recieve a Dog Tag and Bodywarmer

The Rules

Model and Paint a Blood Raven Space Marine using cover in combat.
Entries must be a SINGLE Games-Workshop Space Marine on a 40mm or smaller base. Models may be any type of marine but painted in the the chapter colors of the Blood Ravens Space Marine Chapter.
Take a photo of the model in progress to be sent along with your final entry.
Send all final entries to ThePaintingCorps@gmail.com with the heading 'Take Cover!', please include your name and address in the email.
All entries must be received by March 20th at 11:59pm Central Standard Time (GMT-6)
Entries will be displayed and voting by the judges will commence.
When all votes from the judges are in, the winners will be announced and prizes will be sent out!

So break out the bits box and start modeling those marines shooting from behind a ruins, sniping from the bushes, or leaping from a hiding spot to assault the enemy! The possibilities are only restricted by the depths of your imagination! And for some additional inspiration, check out the recently released Dawn of War 2!

Only one full model is allowed. Bits of other models are allowed but not another full model.

The most intimidating part of this project, as far as I can see, is freehanding a blood raven shoulder icon. I'd screw it up each of a dozen times.

What level of conversion is allowed? Can I scratchbuild a marine like the one on the picture or do I have to use an existing miniature as a base?

I see what you did there ^_-....

A head on the base, a ragged torn apart torso with head and maybe an arm attached still from being used as a shield, bits and pieces of the model, not a full model minus!

Scratchbuilds are ok.

40mm is what Terminators are based on. I believe it's also for lictors, but I'm not 100% on that as I don't play Nids ^_^;...

Yes you can, but generally for online competition like this, its for your benefit
that no one else can see your WIP. Due to possibility of copying / comparing etc etc
before the dead line.

As well as sometimes i think they leave the painter's identity hidden during
the judging process to prevent any biased opinions.

Yes, you can blog as much or as little as you would like. This contest is going to be privately judged by our panel, and not publicly judged like the Dakka Painting Challenge has been in the past here on Dakka.

So feel free to blog away, I would ask that you link the contest though ^_-. Every little bit of promotion helps!

Psychiatry Registrar at the moment and with a catchment of half a million for my hospitals psych department we went 4 hours without anyone turning up.... GOLD!

So now I can set bones, deliver a baby (by birth or caesarian), AND decide that you are nuts and have you locked up against your will.... and to relax I moderate dakka.

I entered, but only because I wanted to model a marine in cover, and every time I game with it I'll say "hey, he's in cover ain't he?"

There really isn't a restriction on how many models you can enter, but only one off them will have a shot at winning you a prize, multiple entries from one person will all be looked at but only one prize is possible per person.

You're complaining that a game based off of 40K has ridiculously proportioned melee weapons? For real? Have you not seen a GW model from the last well, ever?
