Sorry for asking what is probably a simple question: How does one 'fire' the Conversion Beamer and under what circumstances would it scatter?
The reference to "(after scatter)" on Pg. 70 has we, well, a bit confused.
Thanks!

Fire the conversion beam as any normal blast weapon. Measure distance, place the blast template, roll for scatter, etc. After the final position of the template has been confirmed measure from the firer to the middle of the blast template and then consult the chart. Depending on the distance from the firer and the middle of the template after the scatter is what the str/ap of the weapon is.
on another note...and something I have been wondering about. What happens when the blast template is exactly 18, 42, or 72 inches away? What str/ap profile do you select?

It won't happen. The range will go a fraction of a nanometer into some range band. The propability of getting exactly 18, 42 or 72 inches goes towards zero meaning it's practically impossible.
The easy answer is: Remeasure more carefully or just roll a die.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

Time to bone up on the blast weapon rules I guess!
I thought it would fire off the users BS and only scatter on a miss...
It HAS been a while since I've played a game of 40K!

If it actually fell on one of the thresholds I would tend to say either profile is valid, but generally as webbe said you can find it to be on one side or the other of the distance.
One thing I wonder about when re-reading the rules is does the center of the blast marker mean the hole in the middle or the middle of that hole?

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I always measure to the center of the hole to the best of my ability, and nobody I've ever played has worried about a millimeter or two difference. Then again I think it's pretty obvious that I'm not a guy who wants to cheat at all, so the niggling arguments don't happen too often.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Actually that should be 'Place the blast marker, measure distance, roll for scatter, etc.'
