Okay, so i'm going to be building a scratch-built Catachan Devil tyranid model and base for entry into this years Golden Demon (adventurous, but i like to aim high!).

I'm basing the upper (front end) torso on the Carnifex, and am trying to find a model scorpian to use as a basic body/tail structure that I can mould onto with GS and my Tyranid bits box, but i'm having trouble finding an appropriate model to use as a base. Does anybody have any tips on finding one or maybe even scratch building?

can't you just use a carni tail as a base & GS one?
there's plenty of picts on the web of scorpions so finding references should be hard.

Good luck at GD.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

What about a Tomb King Scorpion?

Depends on the size of the model. I'm looking for something with body about 1.5x the length of the fex toso at least, the fex torso will be going on top and look like its rearing up to attack.

There was a Games Workshop 'Approved' Catachan Devil model in Chapter Approved in WD314
I'll try and get a picture as soon as the camera has charged up.
It uses 'Fex claws for arms and scything talons for legs.

Rather than a Scorpion model, I would shoot for a centipede. Catachan Devils are long, almost as long as a human train, so I don't think a scorpion would give you than. With a centipede, just trim off the legs and replace them with some Scything Talons. Then put the Fex tail on the end to tie it together with the front. Any way you go about it, I am excited to see this go through.
