Deployment

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/2/21/20715_md-eldar%20deployment.jpg
The eldar bunch all their wave serpents in the north east corner.

The deathwing deploy in the south east corner, holding two squads in reserves to hopefully get some juicy rear armor shots.

Yes the dreadnaughts are hiding behind the land raiders. You would too if you saw all that strength 6 goodness across the table from you.

Eldar Turn #1
Everything turbo boosts forwards towards the deathwing.
Eldar KP: Deathwing KP:

Deathwing Turn #1
The closest land raider shuffles back to keep out of range. One squad of terminators deep strikes in to take pot shots at the rear armor of the wave serpents. All the dreadnaughts move up. The rightmost dreadnaught gets off a lucky melta shot and blows up the fire dragon's wave serpent. The terminators shoot into the fire dragons but he makes all of his cover saves.
Eldar KP: 0 Deathwing KP: 1

Eldar Turn #2
The farseer dooms the squad of terminators. 2 squads of dire avengers get out and shoot into the termies killing 2 and then charging in and killing another one, leaving two terminators locked in combat. One of the emptied serpents moves up and the fire dragons hop on in it. The farseer, banshees and other squad of dire avengers boost again to get close to the westernmost land raider.
Eldar KP: 0 Deathwing KP: 1

Now thats a lot of dire avengers.

Deathwing Turn #2
The second squad comes in and deep strikes again behind the fire dragons wave serpent to get some rear shots. 2 Dreadnaughts shooting, a crusader and squad later and the serpent is still standing. On the western side the lascannon dread takes out the farseer's wave serpent in hth.
Eldar KP: 0 Deathwing KP: 2

Eldar Turn #3
The now dismounted seer council makes short work of the dreadnaught in hth. The fire dragons get out and toast one of the multi-melta dreadnaughts. And the other squad of dire avengers shoots into the terminators, and then assaults into hth. I fail an inordinate amount of shots and am left with one termie stuck in hth. Just as an aside the other termie is still tied up with the other dire avenger squad.
Eldar KP:2 Deathwing KP: 2

Who needs a fist when you have a dreadnaught close combat weapon.

Hey guys, guys, where did you go, there's still foul xenos here that need smiting.

Those were some mean warlocks. Look at the poor dreadnaught

Definitely not a good round to be a dreadnught

Deathwing Turn #3
The eastern land raider crusader attempts to drive past a wave serpent through some terraint to get to the fire dragons and of course roles a one immobilizing it. I've got a tough problem now. He can move up and melta me, and with all the wave serpents around he could actually block all of my exits. I get out belial and the command squad and hope that I can role high enough on my difficult terrain check to block the exit hatch on the banshees serpent. The western land raider mvoes zoom's up 6 and unloads an assault squad in preparation for an assault on the far seer council. The eastern crusader opens up on the fire dragons leaving two alive. The other land raider opens up on the farseer council and through some bad dice rolling 3 warlocks actually die. The terminators role a 3 in their assault to try to block the back hatch of the wave serpent, 1 inch too short to keep them from getting out, and of course nothing can penetrate the serpent in hth. The difficult terraint test for the other squad assault the termies comes up a 5, I try to measure but can't get a good angle, I think I have it but my opponent disagrees, so I had the tape measure over, and we try to get something more accurate, unfortunately my model gets bumped and we can't be sure so we dice it. It comes up in his favor and I can't assault.
Eldar KP: 2 Deathwing KP: 2

Sooo close, and yet sooo far.

See the pretty imobilized land raider surrounded by wave serpents.
Eldar Turn #4
The scorpions come onto the western side of the table, thankfully they are out of range of the termies. The dire avengers get out, banshees get out, the farseer dooms the western terminator squad. Everything shoot's and assaults and when the dust settles all of the terminators are dead. The far northeast corner the dire avengers finally take down the one terminator. The fire dragons shoot the raider but only manage to shake it.
Eldar KP:4 Deathwing KP: 2

Thats right there used to be terminators there.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/2/21/20712_md-hands.jpg
And there used to be terminators here too!

Deathwing Turn #4
Belial and crew move up and flame the banshees and then assault them assisted by the last remaining dreadnaught, Belial takes 2 wounds, and 1 of the terminators dies but the banshees are wiped out. The westernmost land raider tries to pivot to bring all guns to bear on the scorpions and roles a 1 for it's difficult terrain check.
Eldar KP:4 Deathwing KP:3

Look ma no banshee's.

Eldar Turn #5
Belial and friends get doomed and shot up by the dire avengers. I fail a save on belial and he goes down. The avengers charge in and lose 4 in hth but manage to hold. The farseer decides to go swat the land raider and roles a 5,6 on two dice for pen roles. Thankfull he just strips off a gun and stuns the tank. The scorpions assault the dreadnaught (the exarch has the blade that gives +'s to his strength role), they shake the dread, I hit with both of my attacks and role double 1's. The two fire dragons blow up the land raider.
Eldar KP: 6 Deathwing KP:3

Deathwing Turn #5
The terminators break the dire avengers (killing 4) and they run. The terminators (now down to 2) start moving in to either help the dread or take out the farseer. A machine spirited multi-melta takes out a wave serpent. The dreadnaught hits and roles another 1 to wound so the combat there is a push.
Eldar KP: 6 Deathwing KP 4

Eldar Turn #6
The farseer dooms my remaining two deathwing and the dire avengers rally and wipe them out. Dreadnaught finally kills a model but in the same round the scorp exarch rips off a power fist, so the combat is a draw. The farseer beats on the land raider some more but does nothing.
Eldar KP: 7 Deathwing KP:4

Deathwing Turn #6
The dreadnaught and scorps draw again.
Eldar KP: 7 Deathwing KP: 4

Eldar Turn #6
The dreadnaught and scorps draw again
Eldar KP: 7 Deathwing KP: 4

Deathwing Turn #7
The one terminator that had been fighting with an entire squad of dire avengers (while managing to kill one over the entire course of combat), finally succumbs to the massed numbers of his foes and goes down.
Final Eldar KP :8 Deathwing KP: 4

No that's not the same terminator you saw before, if you look real closely you'll see that one has a storm bolter .

Ouch talk about a harsh battle. When I saw that there was the one squad of fire dragons and the seer council I overcommitted trying to take out the dragons. I know better than to separate out my termies like that but couldn't resist trying to get the back shots. I also forgot just how annoying avengers with defend can be. They will lock down a small number of attacks unit like terminators without much of a problem. That and dooming dire avengers are just nasty. There wasn't much I could do about the double 1's and the two bad difficult terrain roles to try to get to the farseer or block the banshees exit. My opponent did a good job of piece mealing out the termie squads I so nicely deep struck into his backfield. And it's still amazing just how much damage wave serpents can take these days. Next time I'll have to stick to what I know and make sure I keep my termies together and ignore those tasty rear armor shots!

Awesome batrep, good commentary.. Poor lone termie! He got mobbed well and truly

Just thought Id point out, on your account of your own turn #3, you mentioned "nothing can penetrate the serpent in hth." Well If you were thinking about powerfists vs the serpent.. Well those str 8 weapon hit rear armor and the energy field rule does not effect (affect? I never know which ) close combat attacks. So happy hunting, HTH

Maybe a Librarian in there? Squeeze in vs Eldar anyway.

It was more me talking about the failure of 3 dreadnaught attacks and 31 lightning claw attacks that failed to do anything . That squad unfortunately was all geared out for anti-infantry and had no fists at all.

The libby isn't bad and I've got both a libby and chaplain in the works for some variability but they aren't quite table top standard yet. The only problem with the dark angels libby is that his only leadership 9 so his hood isn't all that effective, but it's better than nothing!

Ha, another glorious victory for the unpainted masses of Robs DA huh?

Great write up as usual.

You bump the game size because he went over again?

We know how that goes!

I look forward to playing against your Deathwing sometime, shame I never got to play against your Daemons!

You thought about using another weapons load out on Belial?

You totally need a Libby, no more doomed & DA'ed! (sometimes)

Yeah he ended up at 2015 and I said I would add some storm bolters or something to make the points work out.

I've thought about it and I don't think the thunder hammer ss is viable, maybe if it was a 3+ like on the newer marines. One of these days I have 2 more shooty squads of terminators to put together. And for that one I have another Belial conversion I'm going to do with the pw and storm bolter.

Ld9 librarian just doesn't seem that effective to me. Although the mind barrier would be nice just for saving some termies.

The daemons are always available for challenges you just need to let me know in advance! Actually that pretty much goes with any of my armies.

Not sure if you are going to see deathwing for a little while. I'm working on painting Tau right now. I might be breaking out my plague marines for a bit of fun, they've been felling neglected since 5th came out, everyone else jumped on the nurgle bandwagon so I shelved them for awhile.
