I am pretty new to WFB. I have a good grasp of the game, rules, tactics and what not. However I really only know my army well, so need some help.

Anyway my buddy plays WE and he loves tree singing. He keeps moving the woods and chasing my knights with them.

My questions are.

1. Can trees move into my units. Example: Trees move 3 inches and stop when they come into contact with my knights as per the spells description. Does this mean I am IN the woods for purposes of the damage part of the spell? He then proceeds to use tree singing str 5 attacks on my knights, multiple times with the staff. I thought I had to willingly move into the woods to get attacked by the spell. He says, contact means I am IN the woods so I can get attacked by the woods, which eats anything I have for lunch.

2. If the above is possible, can he contact me, then attack me with them while I am already engaged in CC? If so how does this work for purposes of panic checks when suffering wounds before CC happens? This happened to me today and I got owned. (Frustrated me so much that I had to ask these questions.)

My army is getting chewed up by this every single game. Please help. I have a good amount of DD but it seems never enough. I had always figured that it was for blocking purposes and tree surfing. I figured the damage portion was a deterrent for charging WE in the trees, not making the woods a nearly unstoppable heat seeking missile.

Any comments would be appreciated. Also any references to how this works would be great. I checked the FAQ and searched the forums for it already and found no president.

Thanks in advance!!!

Shameless bump. Does anyone have the answer to this question?

I don't have the book but every wood elf player I've played (2) has told me that they can't move on top of you. Touching is not the same as 'in' as your movement is not hindered by the woods. Also if you don't want them to move just put some chaos hounds in them and let them be chewed up instead of something good.

That is along the way I was thinking as well. I usually put the dogs ahead of my knights as a screen and they get eaten by shooting or the wood missile then it or another hits the knights.

Anyone else have a opinion on this. I think that is the way it is but could use a bit more info or is it really just that simple?

Being “in” a piece of difficult terrain in warhammer means the model’s base has ENTERED it. That means at least some portion of the model’s base and the terrain area are physically OVERLAPPING. At any point during which said items are overlapping, the unit is subject to movement penalties (assuming they’re not a skirmisher or something), unable to march, etc. A unit can, however, move right up to and touch (edge to edge) a piece of terrain without entering it.

And vice-versa with Treesinging. Treesinging can move a wood so that it touches an enemy unit, but again, that’s edge to edge, not overlap. The unit is therefore not IN the wood, not subject to movement penalties (though the presence of the wood right next to or in front of them may create problems), and unable to be targeted by Treesinging’s damage effect.

This is the entire point of the restriction on not moving woods ONTO enemy units with Treesinging. It would be far too powerful just allowing for the movement pain WE could inflict, even aside from the damage!

Your friend is (albeit probably without meaning to) cheating you.

Thank you that was what I needed. I can attest that it is WAY to powerful if used the other way. My friend is fun as hell to play and the last thing he would do is willingly cheat. He will not be happy that it cant be used this way , but he will adapt. I even thought we were running it right till it happened in CC.

I will let this thread fade away now. Thanks for that response.

He is correct its movemnt will stop when touching a unit but then there is fury of the ofrest which can smack you as well. Its does d6 str 5 hits if ur within 6 inches of a wood. also in the FAQ treesinging now has unlimited range which make it annoying as hell. Luckily fury of the forest has only a range of 18 just stay away from the woods and ull be fine. By the way what army are you playing?

Running WoC. I have lots of speed but he can cast quite a few times. Yeah the woods are a bitch. I will not fear them as much as I had now. I can now game plan against them, where before my options were quite limited. Run a good chunk of cav so avoiding the woods is possible but with their shooting...ya kinda gotta rush them or your screwed with my army.

Glade guard break easy and dyrads will bounce off choas knights. War dancers on the other hand can be deadly use your magic to shred his glade guard to make his shooting nill invoid. I play WE and i always try to kill casters or elimnate my oppenants shooting phase so i can dominate those parts of the game. WE can hit hard but go squish very easy. Watch out for treekin and treemen a good charge from choas knights though should elimnate either one of those threats. He'll be able to out manuver you with dyrads and wardancers but remember that cant flee as a charge reaction the whole immune to pshycology thing is a double edged sword. What does he like to run if i knew i might be better able to help u.

He runs 3 units of glade guard. Wardancers. 3 treekin. 1 treeman. glade riders w/ attached noble with hail of doom arrow. 1 squad of dryads with branch wraith. Spellweaver with staff and dispell scroll. All in all I have had back luck vs him. I have been in position to wipe him off the board a few times, then the dice took over and I would draw or lose the game. The attacking wood missile has been my biggest problem. Now that that is gone I feel that the tide could be turning. I ran 2 dogs. 3 marauder horse units. 1 MoK knights. 1 shaggoth (for fun I know they are not very good). 1 mounted nurgle sorcerer. 1 tzeenth sorcerer on disk (My MVP vs him nearly every game.) 1 champ on juggy. It is a good match up actually. I have had the upper hand many times but the tree's killing my knights have always spoiled my plan. So now I can't wait to have my revenge!!!!

Hit the treeman with the choas knights and maruders yes its stubborn but only leadership 8 and with no BSB he'll eventully break or lose all his wounds. Glade riders go poof when they're hit by anything as strong as a gobbo and thirty glade is a little risky yes the shooting is great but you lose a unit dyrads for same cost or less. The shaggoth will shred those pesky treekin and should be able to get the charge in everytime. wardancers and the dyrads will porbaly try to lead a unit in a circle while trying to gain a advatge point to get the charge in. some good ole fashion rank and file should help you out. choosen on foot should do the trick. if he's smart he's useing the wardancers and dyrads together to try and get one in on u. anyways now you know how tree singing works you should fair much better.

T.O.

in answer to the cc question,
units in cc are immune to psychology and spells cannot be cast into cc unless specifically stated in the spells rules. Treesing cannot be cast into combat; and the infinite range is only if it does damage, not for moving trees.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

Really i thought it was both ill have to look it up again. Either way its still annoying. Spells have tp specify in their profile that they can be cast into CC if it dosnt state can be cast into cc then it cant.

In the FAQ, it states the Treesining direct damage spell (D6 Str 5 hits) is unlimited. The caster still has to be within 18" if they want to try to move the wood, though.
