Mission: Seize Ground (4 objectives)
Deployment: Pitched Battle
Orks deploy first

I was careful to place a multi-story building on each table half for the shokk attack mek. I placed the hill in the middle of the table to provide some cover saves as I advance. My opponent placed his pieces on the table edges so they would not obscure his shooting. We then placed the objectives. I made sure to put one objective near each ruin on the opposite table sides so my gretchin squad would have one to hold. My opponent put an objective in the middle and the final objective was off center in one of the quarters. I choose the side that had the best access to three objectives.

As planned I dropped the shokk attack big mek on the top floor of a ruin with his gretchin meat shield. One squad of kans went to the left of the ruin with a boyz mob behind it. On the right side of the ruin I placed the remaining six kans. Behind them I placed the KFF mek and his squad of boyz. Immediately behind this squad I placed my remaining boyz squad. Simple Jack the deff dredd was placed directly in front of the ruin. Finally I placed the three deff koptas on my left side.

The Templars deployed two squads in rhinos and the Land Raider Terminator squad opposite my left flank. Everything else went to the right. He needed to place on both sides of the hill to so he would have clear shots.

Turn 1
Orks
A very short turn. Everything moves and then runs towards the enemy. The koptas stun a rhino and the shokk attack takes a pot shot at a demolisher but misses.

Templars
A rhino closes in and disgorges a crusader squad. They shot at a squad of koptas but due to poor shooting and excellent saves the koptas were unscathed. The rest of the Templars fire volley after volley into the advancing wall of kans. The Kustom Force Field saves two kans from certain destruction; another kan has its rokkit shot off and then explodes after a direct hit from a lascannon.

Turn 2
Orks
The wall of kans move forward with the boyz following after. The shokk attack shoots at a demolisher but missed. The Killa Kans start to produce, however. The KMB squad opens up at the razorback and wreck it. The embarked crusader squad exits and immediately come under fire by the grotzooka/rokkit Kans. Several die and the squad routes. They are very close to the table edge and flee off.

Templars
The HQ rhino squad is moving along my right. The Land Raider is stalking the kans. The raider is shooting a lot so not moving that much, but with the ramp it is within assault range of a squad of kans. In the Templar’s shooting phase a rhinos shoots at my koptas without effect. The crusader squad opens up on the left boyz mob and kill seven. The Land Raider takes out a kan with a well-placed lascannon shot.
In the assault phase the crusader squad assaults 23 orks and the two-strong kopta squad. Four boyz die from combat, a kopta is wounded, but I manage to kill two marines. I lose a few more boyz to No Retreat.

Turn 3
Snikort arrives! I have him come in on my left flank. He’ll be going after a rhino with an embarked squad. The kans on the left move to assault. Everything on the right moves forward. Simple Jack and the kans are getting close to the Land Raider and the Demolishers. I decide to run Simple Jack. This is a mistake. In the shooting phase the koptas explode an empty rhino. The shokk attack gun is ineffectual in shooting, and the KMB kans fail to harm the venerable dreadnought.

The assault phase goes well for the orks. On my right, two kans manage to immobilize the HQ rhino. On my left flank two kans join the boyz/crusader squad assault. Each side loses four. The marines are dwindling.

Snikrot and his boyz hit a rhino along with the solo deff kopta. Snikrot manages to wreck it and the embarked squad, unable to get out of the wreckage, die a horrible death.

Templars

The HQ squad exits the immobilized Rhino. They will be able to assault a full squad of boyz.
In the shooting phase Simple Jack the Deff Dredd succumbs to multiple lascannons. I should have kept him close to that KFF but I was in a hurry to get to those demolishers. The demolishers shoot at the kans but scatter into my boyz.

The Templars are due for some good luck and they get it. On my left the lone crusader squad survives combat—one marine remains engaging two kans and about 10 boyz. The venerable Dreadnought assaults into a unit of three kans.

He hits with three attacks and gets three penetrating hits. On the damage table he rolls 4, 5, and 6. All three kans die! In addition, the HQ squad assaults a full mob of boyz and wipes half of them. I lose a significant number more to No Retreat. I manage to kill four marines though!

Turn 4

At this point I’ve got two kans remaining on my left flank. One is missing weapons. I’ve got snikrot and his 13 kommandos also on my left, and 10 boyz. On my right I’ve got two kans and the KFF Mek squad. My shokk attack and gretchin are holding steady. The koptas are in a position to start shooting at the demolishers and contesting objectives.

The Templars have their Land Raider (and its termies!), a half-strength squad with the HQ, two vindicators, a lone marine, and a venerable dreadnought.

Orks
The KFF Mek mob moves towards the venerable dreadnought. My plan is to kill it to death and then try to consolidate out of the terminator assault range. Two remaining grotzooka kans move adjacent to the command squad. They’ll shoot and then assault. The koptas move to get side/rear armor shots at the demolishers.

The grotzookas roll poorly and only manage to kill one marine. However, the shokk attack gun finally delivers the goods. It rolls strength 9 and hits the head of the Emperor’s champion. It doesn’t scatter. The champion and his marines die. The koptas fail to damage any demolisher.

In the assault phase the boyz and kans kill the lone marine and move towards the center objective. The KFF mob hits the venerable dredd and manages to destroy its DCCW.

Templars
The Land Raider moves up and disgorges the terminators. The demolishers shoot at the grotzooka kans and kill one. In the assault phase the terminators hit the KFF mob engaged with the dreadnought. Many orks die but I manage to kill 1 terminator and the nob actually wrecks the venerable dreadnought. The KFF squad is then routed.

Turn 5
Orks
Things are wrapping up. The koptas destroy one of the demolishers. My 10 remaining boyz move/run towards the middle objective as do my two kans on the left.

Templars
The termies get back in the land raider. The remaining vindicator shoots at my remaining grotzooka kan, scatters, and wrecks the immobilized rhino on my right.

The game continues

Turn 6

Orks
My 10 boyz grab the center objective back up by two kans. The shokk attack shots at the land raider without effect. The koptas fail to damage the remaining vindicator.

Templars
The land raider moves up and out pop four terminators. They assault my 10 boyz, killing only seven! The orks kill two terminators. I’ve lost combat by 5. I roll my LD….

Incredible! This means the kans can now assault if the game goes to Turn 7

Turn 7
The kans assault the terminators. The game ends with me in control of one objective thanks to my gretchin.

An absolute bloodbath and a great time. Couldn’t have asked for a better opponent. I’ve previously been crushed by this guy (I refer you to my previous AAR “Orks vs. Demolisher Canons, orks lose”) so it felt great to eek out a win.

Lessons learned:
For me I think I’m going to have to get more patient and just move slowly with the wall of kans. Rather make a beeline for the other side of the table I should have stopped once I had control of three objectives. I thought I had to make contact with those demolishers. This was not true. The koptas were able to hurt them and all my moving forward did was get Simple Jack killed to death and another squad wiped by terminators.

Cool report. Did you play in a GW store? Nice store shots in the initial pics. Thanks for posting. It was pretty easty to follow.

One question: Are your Killa Kans pink?

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

This game was at my FLGS, The Adventurer's Guild in Harrisburg, PA. A great shop--a minimum of three tables for open gaming, but the owner sets up more in a back room if it's league night.

Glad you liked the report. And why yes, my kans are pink, as is my deff dredd, and my koptas. I use squig pink from Vallejo and then use the baal red wash from GW. I am really happy with the results. My army needs alot more work but its' coming along.

Killing it to death, a plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a fox!

Thank you, that made my afternoon.

Nice report, and I like the look of that venerable dreadnought. Do my eyes deceive me, or does it have some sort of ceremonial cloths or a cape?

That doesn't look like nearly enough terrain for a game of 40K.

Was that a conscious decision, or was that all that was available?

It's seven pieces all of them medium to large in size. Fairly standard tournament table. How many do you usually play with?

Nice report. The camera work was okay in most of the photos, IMO.
