I went to my first 40k tournament this weekend, and altogether had a lot of fun. Two of the three games I played, though, had giant line-of-sight blocking terrain set pieces right in the center that effectively split the playing field. One was a 2'x2' Lustrian ziggurat so big that it seemed like I was fighting it more than I was fighting my opponent.

This is a GW store and those terrain pieces are pretty well bolted on to the tables. I have to accept them and work around them in play. What sort of quirky terrain bits do you encounter in your play venues and how do you handle them?

The eye of terror.

To me that's not "quirky" terrain, because I love to set up tables exactly like that. It makes for more strategic games, although it can give some armies (like trukk-heavy orks) advantages.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

I agree. A big centerpiece that blocks LOS makes for more interesting games.

Well,be happy your local GW store/friens care enough to make terrian it is really bad when your friend makes coke tin building in the middel of the lounge and is set on the idea that it will serve as the games center piece.I also agree with the above posts it makes for a good game and looks really cool.(unlike a coke tin shack)
