Subject: How many scoring units to have in a 2000 point GT setting?

Normally I'd be ok with 2 full tac squads that I can combat squad in a 2000 point game. However, in a GT setting in order to get a massacre I'd have to control 3 more objectives then the other player in two missions. So can I get away with just two tac squads or should I go with three? The main difference would be that if I kept the third tac squad I'd also keep a rhino for them and a land speeder with a Multimelta & Heavy flamer (Vulkan is HQ so it'll be twin linked) vs. if I went with only 2 Tac Squads I'd have a second Land Raider Reedemer with a Multimelta & extra armor.

If you want the nice massacare victory go with getting some more tactical marines, i would use scouts but i can see ethier being effective.

I always take 3 tac squads in 1500pts - 2000pts, as a bare minimum sometimes i like to throw an extra in, in 2000pts its usually them or a squad of termies.
In a Vulkan Army if you have enough melta i'd suggest taking Flamer/Multi Melta, and a power weapon on the sergeant, Fist is nice but most of the time that squads going to be hopping out of Rhinos and shooting stuff up, prehaps giving the serge a combi flamer too, them 5 in a rhino doing it three times would be very nasty.

When you give total control to a computer, it’s only a matter of time before it pulls a Skynet on you and you’re running for your life.

IMO I really don't think 2 is enough. I would go with 3.

A good question... Let's look at the missions.
Massacre on Seize Ground. In Vegas it was 2 more than your opponent. Possible wins with 5 objectives include 3-1 and 2-0. i suppose you can win with 4-0, 5-0 and 4-1, 5-1. But if you did, you didn't need to tweak your list.
So in order to win in both likely outcomes, you'll need 3 scoring units. One of your scorers will likely die, so i would say, for space marines 2x10 marines in a mechanized army (rhinos or razorbacks necessary) or 3x10 marines in a drop pod army. Don't try to kill scorers that you could easily block if you are playing mechanized, protect your own troops by killing their blocking/attacking elements, and then tank shock scorers to get your big margins. no advice here for drop pods other than to always aim the pod at an objective, one more piece of armor they need to kill. Make sure your troops are equipped to kill typical blockers if you are playing with pods (think meltagun/multi-melta/combi-melta)
Massacre on Capture and Control. Control both objectives. Only orks were getting this massacre consistently last year. Marines can certainly do it, but they need land raiders or scoring sternguard in my opinion (or to play against a weak list).
If playing mechanized, place a combat squad in a land raider, deep strike with whatever used to be in the land raider. You could do fine with the same guidelines as above. If you played a different army i'd have differrent advice. But since you specified SM, that'd be how I did it.
Massacre on Annihilation. Was it 4 more kill points? Doesn't matter, for troops, the less the better. Not that 10 space marines are easy to kill but they just don't have that speed or range to get the vital first few kills in an annihilation game. This really is the mission that makes you not want to go overboard on troops. Ideal number of troops here... 0.
Hopefully that was helpful. Number of troops I'd use and a little bit of tactical advice.

Good advice Shep. Right now I'm leaning towards the three tac Squads (2 with razorbacks, 1 with a rhino) though the 1 land raider will be a huge fire magnet, but that might not be a bad thing.
Are you going to be playing at the So Cal Slaughter in a couple weeks?

It is possible, I don't really have my act together, not sure what army i'd bring, etc. But I could use a good tourney. Been a little while.

Personally if you take the other landraider and combat squad units to put in both you'll be fine, i wouldn't worry to much about it. But then again I don't know what the rest of your list looks like Oh, and i'll see you at the SoCal Slaughter. I'll be running my Pure GK's instead of my 'Nids

So it is pretty much down to the ability to have 6 scoring units with 4 transports (1 landraider redeemer) or 4 scoring units with four transports (2 landraiders redeemers)
And I'm looking forward to meeting you and seeing those pure GK's kill some mutants.

The sad fact of the matter is that Marines are so ubiquitous that you have to mention you're playing something else or people will (often correctly) assume you're just talking about Marines.
But the OP also mentioned Marine units in his first post
