Thanks a lot especially for your explanation about depths of field. Also for your advice to use the conventional zoom rather than a Macro. Thanks a lot.

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

The best background for taking photos is not white as most camera's have difficulties in handling the contrast and amount of white is the photo. This can lead to the contrast problems.
The best background color is light grey or blue as these help the camera to get the white and black into balance.
Otherwise great article.

You are correct, as most camera meters try to get it to 18% grey or "flesh tone", however white is also good as then you dont get reflected colour casts! Anything is better than an out of focus bedroom!!

Any ideas on how to make different parts on a plain grey plastic model stand out a bit more?

I will post a how too on "flat" tone images over the weekend. Im in the studio a lot over next few days so it might be Sunday before i can do it. I will try to do two, one showing more contrasting lighting on a white background and one about doing it on a black or dark background.

Photoing bare metal minis can be made easier by applying thin black wash over the metal and thus improving the contrast.

Is it ok at add in to your solid article with some extra bits on cheap miniature tripods, use of Macro modes, macro lenses and picture delay?

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |
