I am going to be running a 10 man Sterngurad squad and the librarian in a LRC and I am wondering what should I give him. I am thinking Null Zone and either Force Dome or The Avenger, leaning towards force dome. Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks guys

Either would be good. Force dome would make them and the libby more resilient, so it's the more conservative option.

Avenger would allow you to take on 4 units at once.

Sternguard drop out, take on one thing, libby goes out the side door, avengers another unit, and the lrc splits it's fire via machine spirit. Though I'd use a redeemer for that role.

If your opponent has any invul saves null zone is worth it.

With a sternguard squad you often aren't attacking units with a lot of invuln saves. But the 24" radius is nice for your other units that are.
Honestly, I usually take my libby with Force Dome and Null field.

Thank you for the help guys. I have used nothing but chaplins so far and using a chaplain with sternguard isn't really a good idea.

You should either have more Combi-Meltas (1 each) or switch the Combi-Meltas you have for a pair of Melta Guns. I recommend the latter, but some people seem to think the former is better.

I'd say go for the Force Dome and Null Zone, particularly if you plan on going hunting for Terminators, Daemons, Nob Bikers, etc. The Sternguard will already be hard-hitting, and that sort of support works well with their shooting (given its 24" range...) and the way that they tend to wilt under enemy resistance.

also nice to put a sternguard unit in a droppod (combi melta and/or combi flamers) with Librarian with Gate and null zone if your facing daemons.

see I hate deep stiking stuff...the thought of a bad scatter/roll wiping out the entire unit doesnt sit well with me. That and I don't own a droppod and my wife wont let me buy one stupid budget.

Well, if you can't make up your mind on what power to give your librarian, just buy tigurius for what, 40-60 pts more?

Gate and avenger or null zone are the best choices for a power armoured librarian accompanying sternguard.

Tigurius gets more than just an extra power over the two a normal Librarian can get. He also helps with reserves,

The land raider is probably overkill for sternguard since they should be shooting, not assaulting.
I think Force Dome helps make the sternguard more durable thought.

snip.

All rubbish and OT, sorry. GoI & nullzone or GoI & forcedome. Assaultings is a very big risk for sterns. Deployement via a LR or deployement via a drop-pod will still (I assume) put them into hostile terriorty & not 24" away from nething.

The LR is being take cause I HATE deep striking. The though of rolling a bad scatter and a 400+ point unit going poof just doesn't sit well wiht me.
Also the LR will tend to draw fire that would be going to my assault marines and tac squads.

I just meant take 9 sternguard and a libby in a rhino. They can get out and shoot and if you give the libby Smite, that is 4 str4 ap2 shots to make up for the one less sternguard model. A Rhino is a lot cheaper than a LR. Plus, sometimes I just leave them in the Rhino and shoot 2 sternguard out the fire point (usually the combi-meltas to pop the vehicle) then next turn hop out and blow away the squishy that was hiding inside the vehicle without the danger of being assaulted by that unit.
