I am sure this has been covered and I did a search but saw nothing. My question is which power takes precedence when you use null zone on a fortuned squad of eldar with invul saves or a squad of demons near fateweaver? They are mutually contradictory powers. Do you reroll the succesful or failed invul saves?

If anyone could relieve my ignorance, I would be ever so grateful, thanks.

Basically you re-roll the passes and the fails. Which means you pick up all of them and roll them again.

So as Enmitee says, they basically cancel out and you might as well not roll the 'first' time at all and just roll them once.

Hm, interesting interpretation. Is there any backing in the rule books for this?

Thanks for the replys too.

Re-read the descriptions. They don't affect the same dice. So both powers works meaning you re-roll all dice of the initial roll.

Practically this means you can ignore the first roll all together meaning they basically cancel eachother out.
If you don't want to jinx the dice I suggest you roll them two times though.

It's the same thing against Perils of the warp BTW.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

No, it's basic math.

Actually, the more I think about it, that does make sense and does not break the no rerolling rerolls rule in the BGB. Thanks for the input!

I love C99, but I've seen evidence lately that he needs a hug.

The answer for this question is as clear as it is unintuitive.

That wasn't harsh. Harsh would have included some "wargamers make math teachers cry" snark or something.

Math teachers have feelings?

If you see it as being an issue just ask your opponent how he plays it. Roll twice or roll once and then explain to him why it does not matter.

By RaW you have to roll, and re roll it if it passes or Fails.

So yeah, this can get kinda annoying when you say, pass the first one then fail the second, but kinda awesome when you fail the first and pass the second

I just did the math on this. I get identical fails/saves as if we never rerolled any dice on any armor save combinations. So to save time, one should elect to not reroll any dice.

Oh I agree 100%, but if you play by the Rules and Mess about with the letter of the Law as little as possible (like our group does) it will result in less arguments

I was being sarcastic, it was a pretty obvious solution once it was pointed out to me. I sort of did the old slap the forehead routine.

But, I had a good excuse, I had just got done partying my ass off for 7 days and nights straight at Carnival in Brazil, my brain was certainly not at 100%!
