Hey all. I'm considering either converting or buying a FW Hierophant for some Apoc games but I had some questions on how you play it.

First, how do you do melee? As in what's in range or when it's in range. Since the model has such large spanned out legs, how do you determine when enemy units are in range. Also, when they are, how do they resolve countercharge actions? Basically, what's the "base" for melee?

Second, how do you handle LOS to the Hierophant? Do you include the legs as viable targets? Do people prioritize legs to add range since they are a little further out than the main body?

Any tips for playing such a monster? Thanks in advance!

All these questions are answered in the Apoc book. Maybe you should buy one of those before you buy the Hierophant?

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Actually I have the book and have read it. I wanted clarification from people who actually played with the model. Oddly, the people on Warseer were far more graceful and informative.

Simply draw a line between the legs, as described in the book. When in doubt, assume the enemy can reach the Heirophant.

Yes, and Yes. If you can see any of it, you can shoot it. It's the only way to be fair given how powerful the beast is.

Oh, and being pouty and snarky isn't the best way to get the help you needed. It was really easy to read you initial post as simply wondering what the rules are, rather than custom.

Perhaps a re-read of the 2nd post of the thread would indicate who was being "pouty and snarky".

People don't need to bother with such useless posts as that. Either offer advice or simply dont post at all. It's actually quite simple.

As far as the line between the legs, I didn't see that in the book. So that's something that I will research more and get a better feel for. (As an aside, the first and second reply in my Warseer post included all the information you already posted without the initial sarcastic comment.) Thus, there I didn't have to go through all the chaff to get to the wheat.

So, while I think you for your answers, having to deal with other useless posters while on this answer finding journey really soured the whole experience.

What's even more entertaining about this whole endeavour is that I thought I would get a more mature answer from Dakka rather than Warseer as a lot of locals think Warseer posts are elistists. Unfortunately I've discovered quite the opposite.

The second post in this thread was not being snarky at all...it was simply telling you that all the questions you asked (which were rules questions, and not tactics questions BTW, except for the last open-ended question) could be found by reading the applicable rules.

As to Dakka v Warseer in terms of maturity...well, that's up to an individual. I've always found the S/N ratio on Dakka to be far superior, because while there's no such thing as a dumb question, there is such a thing as a dumb response. Part of being able to determine what qualifies as a dumb response is vigorous and thorough, deductively-based criticism.

Another rule on Dakka (and one that's enforced fairly stringently by the mods) is to not post rules wholesale - which is essentially what you asked for, since the answers to your questions were all found in the rules themselves.

There's some wiggle-room when it comes to determining what the rules actually mean...but your questions essentially revealed that you hadn't read the rules themselves.

That was condescending, not pouty. Snarky maybe.

Unless you're Yak (which I'm almost positive you aren't), you don't get to create new forum rules. Sorry.

So, the post telling you that the rule was in the book was actually... wait for it.... helpful? Huh, imagine that.

So, while I think you for your answers, having to deal with other useless posters while on this answer finding journey really soured the whole experience.

Who was useless? The poster who told you where the rules were, or the poster (me) that explained them? We may have hurt your precious feelings, but I don't think either post was useless.

What's even more entertaining about this whole endeavour is that I thought I would get a more mature answer from Dakka rather than Warseer as a lot of locals think Warseer posts are elistists. Unfortunately I've discovered quite the opposite.

Well, I've found that the best possible way to judge any large community is by the actions or one or two people. (that was snarky, btw. ).

One fairly important thing to note about Dakka is that it's a smaller community than Warseer, and you don't get the immediate response that you usually get over there. Questions like this, that most people can't answer, will take longer to find a valid response.

Beyond that, personal taste is personal. If you prefer another forum, by all means post there.

I'm just curious, if the FW hierophant doesn't come with a base, then how does it stand up on those spindly little legs? Or does FW just expect you to make your own base for it?

massaioh, you should make a base for it yourself, but not essential.
also, it needs a support for its mid section (which you can add to the base ) as its far too much weight and tends to snap its talons.

It sounds like that one's too small for us to bother with, we should throw it back into the shallow end of the pool until it's ready. Or cut it up and use it for bait, which would be fun.
