I understand the impetus behind giving him the save, my thinking, though, is that most (not all) offensive magic that could hurt him requires
LOS, so keeping him in woods should be sufficient to avoid that. For any spells that don't require
LOS, you want to be out of spell range anyways - a 5+ ward save is not nearly as good as avoiding harmful magics at all. I'm just concerned that you're investing A LOT of points into a single character that could bite the dust to one bad round of magic.
