I'm new to the dakka forums so hello everybody.
I just wanted to find a place to show off some of the terrain work I've been doing.
The setting is markedly 40k but the table's primary use is necromunda.
All the buildings have standard bays for my interlocking catwalk system. If I get good feedback maybe I'll keep posting progress.
The buildings that are painted were the first ones I made for the set and I'll think you'll see how much I've improved since then. The ones that look speckled have a coat of textured spray paint but still need regular spray paint and normal paint (obviously)
Let me know what you think. Any and all comments/criticisms/recommendations are welcome.
Heres the catwalks and connectors:
And here's the one I just started yesterday
Thanks for looking!

Sweet, I'm liking it! I like your buildings, and it looks like this table would be great fun to play on. I always like it when tables are actually covered in city, rather than just having dotted buildings here and there.

You'll get a lot more hits and responses if you host your images on Dakka.
Many of us can't see hosted images from work.

Nice eagle!! Its hard to paint texture on flat panels of buildings, thats why the GW CoD terrain has so many details, to make it more 3d and paintable! But I like your cathedrals. Very 90's.

Honestly... I don't think your painting does justice to your building abilities.
Your buildings are VERY well built, but your painting of them is very basic.
Also... you should embellish the large flat areas. Bullet holes, propaganda posters and simple decorations (access panels, etc.) goa long way.
Liking the wings on the last building.

Have you tried Litko with their 'Industrial Tower' and 'Space Corridor' systems?
To the OP that is some really nice looking stuff.
I very much like that they look like buildings rather than the usual abstract collection of walkways.
The paint needs some work as you have said. Would love to see it finished.
Some smaller details, drainpipes, wires, aerials, control panels, rubble, barrels, crates etc would really bring it to life.
Also, oversized stairs make me smile! . This is unmistakeably gaming terrain!!!!
It is possible to make them smaller by building just the treads like fire escape stairs but who needs realism in Necromunda?
Not me that's for sure!
Please keep posting.

I appreciate all the advice.
I'm probably going to stick with the oversized stairs, not because I like them per se, I've experimented with smaller ones and various systems to get models to stay in place but ultimately they all just ended in frustration. When theyre one inch deep and flat models stand up and thats what counts. (also having them one inch each makes it really easy to measure movement distances one the way up or down.)
As far as painting is concerned, I absolutely agree with you, my painting needs a lot of work. I like to think I'm better than average on a miniature but when it comes to terrain I get really lazy with the paint. Quite frankly its probably because I enjoy building them so much more. I would really appreciate any painting tips any of you could offer especially for those pesky flat surfaces.
I liked the idea of propoganda posters, I may Print a bunch out on cardstock and throw them all over the place. My buildings do need more of a 3rd dimension as some of you said but I think if you recognized the order in which they were built you'd see that I've been learning that lesson as I go but i've only really been resolving it by layering foam core.
I really need some more recommendations on how to achieve that 3rd dimension though. I have lots of guitar strings, wires and even some thin metal tubing and plastic I-beams. I also have a million bits... (I've been in the hobby on and off since second edtion 40k and I have vehicle and tank pieces all over the place) but I have yet to find a way to put any of these things on buildings in a way that I think looks appropriate.
Thanks again for all the suggestions so far... keep em coming.

Your dollhouses are sweet dude.
I think you need to interior dollhouse decorating though. while the structures are great, they lack depth through the absence of detail.

Wow, that is some seriously well done and detailed terrain for just using foam core. I would add some plastic bits for details, it would help a lot, but as it is it is great.

Great work with foamboard. It makes be blush a bit thinking how much $$$ was spent on plastic buildings when all it really takes is some time and creativity. The Imperial Eagle was especially impressive. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

The graffiti is not my work unfortunately. There are a number of them around the room done by a few of my brother's friends. The one in the pictures is probably my least favorite of the three. If you're interested I could send you a pic of the other two.
