Hello,
Friend was playing imperial gaurd for the first time and we were wondering when you place the two troop and one hq for deployment what exactly counts as a unit.

1--Each hq squad and infantry squad is a seperate unit?
2--Each platoon, including its hq squad, is a unit [ min of 25 models max of 55]
3--For the command platoon do fire support squads and anti-tank squads deploy with the command squad?

Also what about attached charecters such as commisars do they deploy with there unit there attached to and do they counts aas an hq for deployment

Thanx for your help

Dawn of war and IG are screwy. HQ Platoons deploy as a single unit (as per the IG Codex), so for your HQ, you deploy your command squad, any attached HW squads, and sentinel squadron (if attached to the HQ), along with any dedicated transports. Advisors count as part of the squads they're assigned to.

Troop platoons have different wording than Command platoons, so each individual troop unit (i.e. platoon command, infantry, squad, dedicated transport) counts as a separate unit for deployment.

Of course this will likely change in a few months when the new codex is released.

North of you!

Yes of course but that's still months away.

pg.44 Imperial Guard Codex: Each Platoon counts as a single Troop choice on the Force Organization chart when deploying, and is rolled collectively when rolling for reserves. Otherwise they function as independent units

As i read this, the entire troop platoon gets to deploy as one of the 2 Troops choices.

And add one more thing, setinels always deploy at the beginning as per there "scout" USR, unless of course you are outflanking with them

No. They're multiple units occupying a single slot on the Force Organization chart. They do not have the same wording found in the Command Platoon entry that allows them to deploy as a single unit.

HG Command Platoons state the whole platoon deploys as a single unit. Thus the whole thing can deploy in DoW.

The Infantry platoons do *not* have similar wording, so it deploys like everything else.

I"m not sure how much of a direct quote of the rules i can make here.... but "counts as a single Troop choice"..... "when deploying" ... " otherwise functions as independent units.", Top of the Infantry Platoon Troop selection, pg 44. From this we have been letting the IG guy put out the whole platoon: command squad and 5 troop squad. I've said some pretty bad things to him when this comes up but from what i read its the RAW.

Thanks,

There is a HUGE differnce between being "a single troops choice" and being "a single unit".

A dedicated trasnport and the troops it was bought for are a "single troops choice", but are two seperate units. This is even pointed out in DoW deployment.

It is the same with IG Platoons. They are one troops choice, but will be made up of several units...and DoW only lets you put 2 troops units on the table (plus 1 HQ).

Yeah, check the difference in the description for HQ platoon and infantry platoon; it makes a big difference.

IG sentinels have the Scout rule, so yes, you can, even tho it is different from the rulebook USR, it's still Scouts.
