Subject: Imperial Space Marine stuff for use with a Chaos army.

Hello all,
I have a quick question. I'm recently new to the game and I originally began building an IW army. This was mostly in part because I liked the paint schemes and the fact that I could use the Basilisk...sadly no more which sucks since I bought the model, built it and did an awesome job in painting it. Now it's useless...although my friends really don't mind if I use it since I put so much into it. Anyhow, my question is...it seems that as a Chaos army goes, we can use Imperial Space Marines and their weapons (branded as Renegades). Does this apply to any Imperial Space Marine model? For example, I really like the new Thunderfire Cannon, can I make it a convert and use it with my Chaos army legitimately? What about other models in the Imperial Army arsenal? Are they all up for grabs? Or am I way off base?
Thanks for any and all help!

you have to choose a codex and stick with what is in it.
if you want to use the thunderfire then make a force using codex space marines, paint it chaos and call it a day. you cannot however mix and match units from different dexes. you cant use some stuff from the chaos codex and mix it with stuff from codex space marines.

As friendly advice you don't want a thunderfire cannon, it'll take you a week to stick together!

That's plenty cool enough for me. I just really want to use some of the Space Marine models with a Chaos theme to them. I particularly like the modeling aspect of the game as much as the game itself.

Haha...definitely...heck...the thing doesn't even seem to be that effective but I think it sure would look cool with an IW paint scheme (even though it couldn't technically fight with the IW's).

I wouldn't have a problem if you represent something out of the chaos codex with the imperial units, just explain what is what before you start each game.
Thunderfire = Obliterators
Basilisk = Defiler
You could either explain that they have turned renegade or that they look damn good and you want to use them. May seem a little odd having a Basilisk charge you and then rip you apart with it's dread ccw's but hey, why not.

If you wanted one for modelling purposes you could make use of the fact that the thunderfire turret fits on the standard Rhino turret ring, so you could easily mount it on a tank and count it as a vindicator, just a vindicator with an intresting looking gun. Alternatively, you could use it an objective counter on the basis that they're trying to steal it.
Its also worth mentioning that you can use non standard stuff in friendly games, between you and your friends they might not mind you using one.

Could always us it in an Apoc game as well. Though most of those games are going to fall into that Friendly category thats been mentioned previous.

Cool...fitting it onto a vindicator would be awesome. I also like the objective counter idea. Perhaps I could build it and play a game where I try to steal it...if I succeed, then I get to use it for later games...but not until I succeed.
And I'm sure if I spend the time and effort to model it really well with a sweet paint job, then I'm sure my friends won't mind me using it. We're not too strict with that kind of stuff.
I like all these ideas, thanks guys. If I do get one and put a chaos theme on it, I'll be sure to post a pic of it up. Keep it coming!

Also just consider using the Codex: Space Marines rules as IW seem to prefer machinery to daemons anyway.

I had definitely considered that...again I suppose as long as my friends are ok with it.
