So, I'm putting together a list which includes 5 scouts riding in a landspeeder storm. I was going to arm the scouts with CCW and 2 shotguns, but I've gotten a number of suggestions to arm all 5 scouts with shotguns. This seems alright, seeing as they can all shoot out of the open-topped storm, and still pump out 2 shots after disembarking...then charge into assault if need be.

Is this the general idea behind arming all 5 with shotguns. Would anyone vouch for the CCWs in this situation?

Thanks,
-C2

I'd do CCW's. Yes, you can shoot twice before charging but you actually get the same number of attacks (shooting and cc) if you go with CCW's and are better long term in combat. Just a personal opinion but one of the squads i was toying with was a 10-scout squad w/4 sniper rifles and heavy bolter with 4 w/ccw+bp and a sergeant w/PF and combi-flamer. Then a LS Storm in fast attack. Works wonders on most armies.

With shotguns you run the risk of shooting yourself out of close combat range.

Out of a LS Storm, I like Shotguns. Yes, you get the same number of combined attacks/shots with either CCW or Shotguns on the charge, but with only WS3 scouts are not great in CC. So, the more of the enemy you can gun down before you assault, the better.

With only WS3 it means they'll hit anything that they should be in combat with on 4s which is coincidentally the same result required for them to hit with their guns at BS3. Thus, getting more attacks in subsequent rounds of CC seems more solid.

Hey, if you want to plan on having your scouts stick around in multiple rounds of CC, then go for it.

IMHO the only way to use Socuts in a LS storm is as the "final nail in the coffin" of an enemy unit, especially one on an objecitve you want to grab. Soften up the enemy with other units, then swoop in with the flying scouts, finish off the unit, and take the objective...preferably during the end game, so that the scouts have a better chance to hold it. I never use assaulting scouts to hit a unit before turn 4, usually turn 5. Subsequent rounds of CC should never be the plan for scouts that utilize a LS storm. You have assault marines and termies for protracted combats. LS Storm Scouts are there to finish guys off and take objectives...period.

Well, an LS Storm with Scouts is just a distracting unit that could disrupt enemy plans.
They could target isolated units or smaller shooty units.

I'd give the Scouts assault weapons or combat knives and the Sergeant melta bombs.

Pretty damn good idea there. I may have to use it

I can see the merit of charging in scouts with a LS storm's h.bolter + 4 bolt pistols & a combi-flamer.. add in the scout sgt's 2A @ WS4, your making the best use of that pfist. Along with the LSS cerberus launcher winning combat & running things down is attainable.

By far the best use of combat squads.. 5man lascannon squads + 5man razorback assault squads just arent making use of every member of the unit..where-as these scouts are.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

for assaulting out of a storm, I think CCWs are better than shotguns. A lot of people like the PF option, but depending on matchup a lot of the time I would rather have a regular PW.

one of the most compelling things about the storm (to me at least) is the cerberus launcher. combined with the 5e rules for combat resolution, this leadership hit has the potential to get you a lot of free sweeping advance type kills

since the shotgun kills dont count towards the combat result, i think you want as many attacks in CC as possible

i also think whitedragon makes a good point about the dangers of shooting yourself out of range with the shotguns as well

In fact I might start playing marines again when the storms come out. could be fun running a two squads equipped the way I stated earlier. Could be fun to play marines again
