Okay, so here is my first list of Imperial guard. I'm not sure if it is correctly made, but I hope that it is. I based it on 3 battalions + some extra figs i have/I can make out figs i have...

Command Platoon
• Command Squad:
o Heroic senior officer +70
o Heavy weapon team (Autocannon +15)
• Fire support squad +35
o Autoncannons +60
=180pts

3 Commisars
=120pts

Ogryn Squad (going to convert these from whfb: Ogre bulls which i have lying around in my closet, so hence they are on my list..)
4 Ogryns + Bonehead (5x25 +10)
=135pts

Infantry platoon #1
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
=228pts

Infantry platoon #2
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
=228pts

Sentinel Squadron (filling in the points..)
• 1 Sentinel +35 w/ Armageddon pattern (lascannon) +20
=55pts

Leman Russ Battle Tank #1
• Lascannon +15, Heavy flamers +10, Track guards +10
=175pts

Leman Russ Battle Tank #2
• Lascannon +15, Heavy flamers +10, Track guards +10
=175pts

Leman Russ Demolisher #1

=195pts

TOTAL: 1491pts

Not a bad list. Orgryns are great. I really like them. I'm not sure about the heavy flamers on your russes though, have you used them? do they work well? i've never used them.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Make sure you add doctrines like close order drill. Also you forgot your two platoon command squads.

But looks good, thats what I would go with. I would take more doctrines that are free, but that's it.

Take a JO with HO on him its 5 points less for the same thing. Get a standard bearer they are invaluable. I also like to stick flammers on the rest of his guard. Make the auto cannons lascannons.

3 Commisars
=120pts

Stick these in a box until the new codex comes out. Besides you need these points to get command squads to make you list legal.

Ogryn Squad (going to convert these from whfb: Ogre bulls which i have lying around in my closet, so hence they are on my list..)
4 Ogryns + Bonehead (5x25 +10)
=135pts

Place these with the commisars.... The new codex will make them playable but for now they are paper wieghts

Infantry platoon #1
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
=228pts

Thats a good start but you need a Command squad. So add a JO and 4 Flamers. Also for only 30 points you can have 3 heavy bolters... IMO thats good math

Infantry platoon #2
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran) +76
=228pts

same as above but add autocannons instead of HBs

Sentinel Squadron (filling in the points..)
• 1 Sentinel +35 w/ Armageddon pattern (lascannon) +20
=55pts

Nothing wrong with this. I like multi lasers because there cheap though.

Leman Russ Battle Tank #1
• Lascannon +15, Heavy flamers +10, Track guards +10
=175pts

Leman Russ Battle Tank #2
• Lascannon +15, Heavy flamers +10, Track guards +10
=175pts

Drop the heavy flamers. Why put them on a tank that has a 36" range? go for the 3 x HB its cheap and a nice standby when your turret gets blown off.
I find improved coms to be mandatory on one tank.

Leman Russ Demolisher #1
• Lascannon +15, Plasma cannons +20, Track guards +10
=195pts

Just fine the way it is

The one thing you are missing is 3 X 4 Drop Vets with 3 metlas, at 72 points a sqaud they are the bread and butter tank killer of IG. With improved coms they are even more reliable.

Hope that helps!

Okay, I made some changes. And now the list looks like this, hopefully it's legal this time:

=205pts

4 Ogryns + Bonehead (5x25 +10)
=135pts

• Command Squad +40
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran, heavy bolter) +86
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran, heavy bolter) +86
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran, heavy bolter) +86
=298pts

• Command Squad +40
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran, heavy bolter) +86
• Infantry Squad (plasma gun, veteran, heavy bolter) +86

Since you still have some points left over, why not add at least one special weapon to each command squad?

My preference is more plasma guns but since these are not always easy to buy you could use grenade launchers (cheaper but not as good against MEQ armies and Nob bikers).

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Hmm I would also add extra armor to all the leman russ only 5 points/tank so your only adding 15 points not bad.

Why all the veteran sergeants? The naked HSO and commissars suggest that you're trying to take advantage of the Leadership special rule.

I agree, unless you're going to upgrade the veteren sergeants with wargear, cut them out. This'll save you 36pts.

By your list I can tell that you used two doctrines(1 for ogryns and 1 for 1 for HW teams) so you have 3 left.
As I suggested take close order drill(free), and also add on iron discipline(5pts per officer you want assigned this). This will boost your leadership and initiative if your infantryare in base to base contact with each other and you'll hit most enemies first or at the same time in CC(most Eldar and DE have I5 so they go first).

Then you have one doctrine left, I've been criticized for taking carapace armor instead of cameleoline, but the options you have are numerous.

You can shave 5 points of the Command Squad by using a JO with the Honorifica. Also, the 11 points of a Standard Bearer are one of the best investments a Guard army can make.

Ogryn Squad
4 Ogryns + Bonehead (5x25 +10)
=135pts

I love the models, I love the fluff, but Ogryn's are a 3rd Ed. unit in a very different edition of the game. They're fun in Apoc., but the sad truth is that they are a very poor choice for a 1,500 point take-all-comers list.

• Command Squad +40

I agree with everyone who says you shouldn't use Veteran Sergeants. I also agree that you may want to look into buying some gear for those PHQ squads, either 4x assault weapons or at least 1x heavy weapon. Finally, while PG + HB is a good configuration for forward squads, you might want to give some of the rear squads a 48" range HW.

-Track Guards are terrible and useless. Ditch them.
-I personally prefer 3x HB on a LR to 1x Lascannon, but it's a matter of taste.

Never leave 39 points unspent. :-P

OK the best bit of advice i can give you is to wait for the new codex. The second nugget is to never put direct fire heavy weapons in your command squad, you want them hiding not fighting
