So I get to be involved in my first tournement for Warmachine/Hordes in the next 2 weeks. I'm really excited and cant wait to see how I do. We have a 7 minute turn rule and we are allowed to bring 2 different lists. I've only played a few games with my Legion so far, but I'm sure I can run them smothly enough to stay within the 7 minute limit and still do okay.
So I was thinking of using Saeryn since she's been my favorite Warlock thus far. Thagrosh is a close second. With that in mind I'm pretty sure I'll use Saeryn, plus her spells and feat really focus on support and anti-infantry, which is something I didn't do very well with against Warmachine players. So here is the list I was thinking of running.
Fraction - Legion of Everblight
Model Count - 21
Victory Points - 15
Saeryn, Omen of Everblight
Angelius
Seraph
Shredder
Shredder
Blighted Swordsmen (full 10)
Incubi (5)
Forsaken
So Saeryn supports and can deal with infantry. She can bring back a destroyed warbeast, which will probably be the Angelius since I will run it head first into another model, and she can serve up more fury to the Forsaken. Swordsmen can probably deal with almost anything. I'm not too sure on all the warmachine infantry units, but for hordes they can hold their own. Incubi are my favorite, and work wonders against a charge. The Shredders work in a pair. I've found that combined, they can put a hurt on most lights, and sometimes pick at a few heavys.
Since I can bring 2 lists, I thought I would make the second 1 completely different. Any changes to the first? and thoughts on the second?

10 swordsmen will eat up a lot of time and can't deal with centurions or AoE's at all. I'd drop them and the incubi for something like archers or a carnivean and shepherd. Also if it's standard Sr4 style tournaments you might want to use gudrun to hold a side for a vital turn....and swamp gobbers...always!

No one plays Cygnar at my FLGS. So I doubt a Centrion would be an issue, and even then I wouldn't use the Swordsmen unless I wanted to just tie it up. My Angelius would take care of that issue.
AOE's eat up most infantry. I'm just as good with 10 melee guys as I would be with 10 ranged guys.
I dont own any minions other then Gatorman, and Bonegrinders.

For 2nd list
I would swap the Gatormen and archers for the swordmen and incubi. Use the archers to bloody opponents before the gators charge.

I can't even pretend to give you any sound advice on what you should do. I just know I have had wonderful use of Warmongers over swordsmen, hands down.

I always liked Swordsmen. They're cheap, Fearless, and can do a lot of damage.
The downside is that the Incubi have only one host unit - the Swordsmen. People will try to destroy them at range to get the Incubi out early.

My problem with the mongers is I kill 2-3 of them myself because of their berzerk rule. Most of the time when I play-tested them, I would get 4, if not all 5, into combat, kill everything within 2" of them, then one would swing at a monger in my unit.
The problem with the Incubi is huge, but I really dont do well with other units such as the Striders or Archers, and they all cost close to the same points. Striders a little more if you throw in the UA for them.
I do have an all ranged layout using Lylyth and 6 shredders and a Seraph. Striders and then the Solo Strider. I dont know how great it would be though.

Your Saeryn list,
Drop a shredder for a harrier (very fast, good for one shot mage blighting)
Drop the swordsmen for archers
Drop the forsaken for swamp gobbers
If you can find points get feral bone grinders to increase the range of your mageblight.

The primary solution to this is practice. You've got to keep them at that sweet spot of 2.001-3" apart, or keep them from seeing each other (can't attack models in your back arc).
Doomreavers and Tharn Ravagers with Brutality have this same problem.
The Warmonger War Chief also fixes this problem I believe. That would be the easy fix.

I tend to find myself leaning more and more towards Striders since playing them a couple of times. Having stealth with 12" range is great, but with the new Officer and Musician UA, they have bushwack and Rapid shot. It's great getting a possible 16 shots at a unit on RAT8, and RAT10 for the officer. CRA has helped alot too. Plus advance deployment makes me smile.
The more and more I play, the less I want to run a dedicated assault unit. They tend to take several losses and I dont find myself wanting to do that, even though I know that's what they are there for.
It might take a while before I'm sold on the Warmongers, and I dont want to invest in the models if I'm not going to play them. I'll play test them some more before I cut them out though.
