Depends on what tourney you play in. Im sure somewhere it is still allowed.
Always ask your TO for details.

If anybody had brought it to a tournament that I ran when I worked at the FLGS, I would have allowed it. There were some tournaments that were "GT compliant" but those were few and plainly labelled beforehand. Our philosophy was "You paid for it, you should be able to play it." Forgeworld was a case by case basis, usually allowing the Tanks through, but stopping at the "superheavies".

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Like any other question of this nature the answer is; "depends on the tournament".
Are the old armylists from Battle for Armageddon, Eye of Terror, Index Astartes and others still valid?
Yes, most are.
Can I use them in a tournament?
How should we know. Ask your TO. Having the "guys on the Internet" say its ok, has absolutly zero value.

I would be prepared to forward a copy of the rules to the TO for his review; he may not have them or may not be sure which version you plan to use. I would also throw together an army list and forward it as well (or at least close, if you're swapping out stormbolters for heavy stubbers, that's not a big deal). I would also consider taking a digital picture and forwarding it as well; if you have a nice looking army (and not just a couple primer tanks or bare three colors), he might be more willing to allow it since it looks good.

Even if tournaments allow it, it's virtually impossible for you to win with a "pure" armor company because vehicles can't score. Understand this simple rule change before you commit to building/painting an Armored Company.

The Armored Company is not allowed at GW’s tournaments anymore, and should not be allowed at the others.
The reason why is just like all of the non-codex armies they have not been updated with GWs FAQs to make them 5th edition compatible. GW has made the decision to only support codex armies, and to drop all of the others.
I did not meant to rain on your parade, but they dumped all of the other armies like Kroot Mercs, 13th company, LatD, etc.

and Chaos Daemons...
Seriously, I don't think the existance of a FAQ or not neither validate nor invalidate a list.
It's entirely up to you and your opponent or the TO in the case of a tournament.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

The Chaos Demon codex was released just before 5th edition was released and was written to be 5th edition compatible.

As explained already, the AC list's allowance is based on the TO.
However, the next IG dex may have a partial AC built in. It's worth waiting for the Dex to hit the market before purchasing too many kits.

I think elements of every Codex since Eldar were written with some degree of 5th complience in mind. This is not the thread to discuss the issue should you wish, but start one and PM me about it and id be happy to contribute the reasons for my opinion.
Point being, the closeness to 5th's release, to me, is not a reason to use as support for your argument. While some Codeci do have FAQ's that "bring them in-line with 5th", as you can tell from examples like the INAT FAQ, those FAQ's do a very very poor job.
If a T.O. wants to allow Armoured Company.. like the 'Ard Boys did this year.. under 5th edition.. then let them.

Too late... 3 demos, 3 russes, 3 HH's, 2 executioners, salamander, destroyer tank hunter, basikisk, and chimeras galore.... and growing. If I can't run AC then I guess I'll be relegated to APOC. I frakking hate Apoc though, it's stupid IMHO. mebbe this 'Planetstrike' will be better.

remember that in fifth, to get scoring units, you could always take allies. being able to take a total of 4 inquisitorial stormtrooper units - 2 from WH and 2 from DH should give you a plethora of options and scoring units in your games.

Although if you're going include infantry anyway then why not just use the normal IG codex?
That way when the new codex comes out you can not only have 18 tanks in your force org chart if you really really but also enjoy the new shiny tanks that aren't in the old Armoured Company list. And not deal with the 'is it legal' question. Sorry, its just that I see your work around as being more effort than simply not bothering in the first place...

Well, the way I see it, you can take 2 maxed Platoons for approx 600-700 (depending on loadout, ya Ive seen it ;p) and stick the rest with Russes. Hell if your playing 3,000 points (the bare minimum I feel AC is fair and Balanced) thats still a lot of Russes
