I'm in the process of making an ork fighta ( elsewhere on this forum ). I just found a nice piece of perspex rod and base for a stand . My problem is are there any offical guidelines for the height it should be or the size of the base. Anyone know?

simple answer is no - no guidelines (apart from the obvious - it has to be stable enough not to fall over and damage your opponents minis!)

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

As flyers are only useful in Apocalypse their is no set size.
However, Make sure your base is very heavy (really, really heavy!) and at least 6" square, particularly if you want more than 1' of height.
The FW flyers are heavier than you think and become unstable very easily. My Thunderbolt is mounted on a double layer of Brass rod 2' long and has a wooden base an inch thick to support it!
Good luck however you do it!

At one point there were three heights low, med, and high. This was 3rd edition when the armored company was legal.

The height looks good, but the base should be wider or it's going to in risk of falling over constantly.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

One clever base set up a guy at our shop has for his Eldar flying heresies is a sort of three legged stool. I think he said he made it out of clothes hangers.
Anyway, it works with one rod going out the bottom of the plane, then about 6" off the table it connects to three rods that go out to the ground, with little feet on them.

That's roughly the idea. The really nice thing is that finding a place to put it is easy (the feet are relatively small, so find purchase in rough terrain easier than a disk) and models can be underneath it without needing movement.

I made my Thunderhawk fly 12" high. Just because of the rules for shooting at flyers
