I'm thinking of using other vehicles for Ork battlewagons in my army, mostly because building that kit multiple times will get boring for me, and i thought it would be cool for my army to have some looted "vehicles". Obviously they will get converted.
I'm just wondering if these will be allowed in tournaments. Carnifes idea comes from that pic in the humour thread. (You know the one)
Also, how many guns come with the devilfish kit? Would it be better to use the hammerhead?

i would go with the hammer head for more dakka in the kit, the fish lacks weapons badly.
also, buy a battle suit if in need of more weapons as they contain quite a few that can be "looted" and look great.
same with the wave s. for eldar if you like that.
russ is a classic looted vehicle, and allways looks good.
not too sure about the canri though, seems rather small for the role it will be playing.
something like a heirodule (sp?) would work well though instead.

Heirodule means using super glue and ordering online. I want to avoid both of those, and the eldar tanks look too fragile for Orks, IMHO. Are the battlesuit weapons going to be compatible with a hammerhead without any conversion work?
Sorry for not putting this in my first post, but this is the configuration my wagons will use:
kannon
'ard case
red paint job
grot riggers or boarding plank
grabbin' klaw
2 big shootas

ok, so you need plastic for kitbashing? thats fine
the battlesuit weapons mesh pretty well with all tau vehicles.
they should fit in place with minor trimming of studs or small pieces.
if possibly throw some tracks on a wave or grav and it looks amazing, someone posted a pic of one not too long ago, and it does look good.
if your keeping a looted theme how about using tau pihrannas (sp?) as koptas?
sorry for off track, just like looting things lol.

I'm personally not a fan of the Tau to Ork conversions.
As for carnifex... funny, but a bit small maybe.
I'd suggest Leman Russes, or better yet the Gryphons/Basilisks (my personal basis for my looted wagon).
Whatever you go with, be sure to share pics!
Cheers.

Actually, these are going to be the last addition to my 2k point army along with a last warbuggy. My warbuggies alone make for a repetitive army, I don't want identical looking battlewagons too.
Edit for the guy above me: Tau are one of the armies I fight the most, along with nids, chaos, and SM. I already collect chaos, and I really don't like building rhino-chassis tanks - the pieces NEVER line up properly for me. Carnifex is just another option.
1. What's a gryphon?
2. Can't post pix until/unless I figure out my blackberry, sorry.

As already said the Leman Russ is already a well known captured unit in use by the orcs, I would say any imperial weapon is something that the orcs could make use of. As for the Tau, I do not believe that the orcs would be able to maintain the technology, to make the weapons useful, the same goes for the Eldar. As for the Carnifex, I am not sure how the Orcs could capyure and or create one for there use. As for creating new weapons, dont be afraid to look at kits outside of 40k for bits. Anyway have fun, and I look forward to seeing your work.

I use a looted Land Raider for Nazdreg, my Bad Moonz boss. My looted wagons are Predators with turrets from the Ork BW's for Boom guns. My Lobba's are Griffon bases with Forge World Lobba's. My zapp gun battery are the extra Zapp guns from the BW's mounted on the back half of wartrak's.
I orkify everything so it all looks like it belongs together.

Remember that Orks have that telekenetic field. If they think it works, it will work the way they expect it to. A Tau vehicle driven by Orks may not fly high enough to act as a skimmer, but it may float a couple inches off of the ground for movement. I'd imagine they'd treat a Carnifex the same way they treat squiggoths, and find a way to subjugate it either physically or mentally.

masaioh, why subjugate a fex when they can simply labotomise it and run it through cybernetics?
someone has a looted fex and with the work they have done it looks amazing and worth it.
heres some ideas.
NOTE: none of this is my work except the deff dreadz.

Cybernetics didn't really cross my mind. Second fex is what gave me the idea in the first place.

Hahahaha!! Looted Carnifex! Man...
What will they think of next eh? Perhaps a gun that shoots pure pain? Oh wait... That's already been done. Nevermind.
Lol. Personally, I would go with the Russ, as it'd be sortof impractical to "loot" something organic. It's more likely to try and eat you while you're nailing armor plates to it.

It bugs me to no end when people think that Orks cant maintain another races technology. Who says that an Ork mek can or WANTS to keep an eldar grav tank floating or a Tau whatever moving. The mek would simply pull all that crap out and use Ork tech to get it moving again. They can make things float/fly/drive in their own ways.
To the OP I say go for it. Everyone sees the Imperial stuff looted. Hell all my stuff will be imperial (minus my bike squad) so I say if you are playing tau alot, itd make sence for the vehicles to be looted from that race. It would look odd playing tau all the time and have a looted basilisk. Just my 2 cents

Well another one of my friends is apparently starting IG because necrons were too expensive for him. So LR fits too.

Love the looted tau piranha - hadn't seen that before.
And thanks for showing my wazdakka gutsmek
The above pics confirm orks can loot pretty much anything and the results can look great. but I'd say the biggest issue for tournament play is size - if the resulting vehicle is too wide/narrow/short/long/tall compared to the standard model, then someone will whine (rightly or wrongly) and the model may even be disallowed by umpires.
So e.g. a Leman Russ is too small as is, but with enough mekboy bits bolted and welded on, you can _and should_ make it match normal BW dimensions.
