Somehow, this little lady managed to catch my attention, despite me being thoroughly unimpressed by the contents of the WoW Miniatures Game starter set. Picked some up cheap as singles for the express purpose of repainting, and I must say, when you get down to it, the quality of the sculpting in itself is actually pretty good. Too bad it's cast in extra-bendy plastic and has the paint gooped on like some eBay "Pro-painted"job. It was really *that* bad, IMHO about on part with the original D&D Miniatures prepaints.

Anyway I cleaned her up, got rid of most of the mold-lines, and repainted her with my usual mix of Vallejo acrylics, GW Foundation Paints and Inks. Completed in approx ~4 hours.

And if anyone is interested, here's a before and after shot (not really before as I have several copies of the miniature )

Comments and criticisms welcomed!

Gorgeous work... How did you strip the pre-painted gunk off? I've got some old Mageknight figures I may be looking to use, but they, too seem to be made of a softer plastic than I'd want to risk in brake fluid before knowing the effects...

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

@Dronze

I found that Plastic Weld (Dichloromethane/Methyl Chloride) works on the paint. However it is very expensive stuff (it evaporates very quickly). I mainly used it to scrub the face and some of the detail areas clear and then undercoated over the rest.

Disclaimer, I have only tried this on Monsterpocalypse and WoW Miniatures. However, the plastic weld only attacks a very specific set of plastics, and I think it's mainly hard plastics rather than the ABS-type bendy stuff they use in prepainted miniatures. Try on the corner of an unwanted miniature first.

@Lunahound and burb

I got mine from Firestorm Cards UK - www.firestormcards.co.uk

They were the cheapest source of singles I could find (in the UK). If you're in the US there are several guys on eBay selling them at comparable rates.

Hope this helps!

P.S Burb, I don't know if it's fun or not as I don't play the game, but I'll paint a pretty miniature anytime.

I know this is super late compared to the last post, but if anyone is still on this thread, I have a huge question. The super bendy plastic that these figures are made out of, is there any way to re-position them? For example, I picked up the Helwen figure to use for my D&D succubus. The only problem is, the whip is bent funny and stuck between her wings and looks really weird. I would love it if there was a way to bring the whip out like the artist has in the picture.

Take a bowl of very hot water and submerge the mini in it for 20-30 seconds...have anohter bowl of freezing cold water ready. Take the mini out of the hot water(holding the desired piece in the form you want) then submerge it in the ice cold water while holding the bent piece in the form you want...works wonderrs for the ultrasoft DDM/SWM plastics.
