I really want to include a full 9 of these orkish arttilary units in my 1500 point army... the only problem is what to chose...

Lobba:

+Does not require Line of Sight
+Requires Pinning Test
+Ignores cover relative to the gun (based on where it lands and only if it a roof)
+kills GEQS with AP 5 and S5

- Does not kill MEQS reliably as they keep their saves...
- Basically a BS2 weapon...

Shokk Attack Gun:

+Can lock a Vehicle out o shooting just by glancing it
+it is AP 2
+Can have the highest Strength about 40% of the time
+Bs 3

- Can only hit 1 target
- 60% of the time it is weaker that a Rokkit Shot (but again has AP 2)
- potential to kill off all the Crew eventually
- Requires LOS

Big Gunz:

+ Versatile
+ the cheapest option
+ good against MEQS (AP 3) and GEQS (AP 5 Blast)
+ A BS 3 rokkit or a grenade that hits its mark 51% of the Time

-requires LOS
-produces weaker shots than the other two...

so what is the best option when you want to field 9 of them... I thought about 2 Big Gun squads of 3 and a lobba squad of three...

Personally, I like Kannons.

QuietOrkmi:

You seem confused. The Ork Big Guns unit includes the options of Kannons, Lobbas, and Zzap Guns.

I have always been a kannon fan. Of course in the last book the solid shot got 2d6 pen. Its still useful tho.

The Kannon was very cool when it got the ordnance shot in the last edition. I could have sworn that they were going to make it an Ordnance Blast weapon in this edition, but them's the breaks.

You have described Zzap Guns but said Shokk Attack Guns.

I like both Kannons and Zzap Guns.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I'll put in a vote for 9 lobbas myself. In smaller groups/fewer choices, I might opt for the others (as individual shot-for-shot you're probably better off with kannons for vehicle busting/MEQ killing and zzaps for termi busting).

Yet a full 9 lobbas would be more devastating than people think. They won't fair well against mechanized lists (until folks dismount), but 3 sets of 3 barrages would be a lot of saves forced... and saves forced are saves failed.

Cheers.

p.s. Classic avatar... the 1/2 orc barbarian from Dragon magzine's "Ugly Heroes" pictures. Nice stuff.

I would suggest kannons because they are inexpensive, and decent ranged anti-tank. Orks have lots of anti-infantry, but lack ranged anti-tank.

Kannons. If only Lobbas were large blasts...

The kannons worked out fine because I was able to throw more S8 shots with AP 3, they wrecked a skimmer with 3 shots and killed 3 scout bikes (he broke them up from 6) for the rest of the game the kannons did nothing but needless to say in the first turn of the game they paid for themselves four times over...
