Looking for some extra geeky fantasy novels resembling the warhammer fantasy or lord of the rings storyline?

I figured this is the place to ask.

The absolute best fantasy out there right now is Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. It is peerless in its awesomeness.

Also execptional is Glen Cook's Black Company books, which come highly recommended by the above mentioned Erikson.

I have much enjoyed manybooks by David Gemmell, starting with the obviously-first-novel-but-still-great Legend, with Waylander as another great story.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Nice, constructive question. Easier than searching Amazon, amirite? =)

+ Eragon is an homage to Lord of the Rings, only with a plot that's more ripped from Star Wars than I think the author intended. I've never seen the movie, but the book was pretty light hearted fun, and I'd recommend it.

+ The Gilead / Malus Darkblade Warhammer novels are basically Michael Moorcock's Elric novels set in the Fantasy universe. Basically. Check out any of Michael Moorcock's "Elric" novels if you like those characters.

+ If you enjoy 40k, you may enjoy reading Foundation by Isaac Asimov. It's *AMAZING* how much GW "borrowed" from that book!
