Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

okay, me and my brother had a game today, we are both huge noobs at the game and have a few queries that you may be able to help with.
1. Ork lootas and there deffguns, how exactly do they work, in the codex, (i dont have it on me now), it says something like D3, what exactly is this???
2. Turbo boosting, how does it work, and which minis can use it?
3. (i know that the rule book must say this a million times) but, what are the mission options for different rolls???
4. infaltrate and deep strike??? im very confused, how does this work.
5. (and finally) deployment, i know you roll to see who goes first, but how does the deployment throughout a game work???
thanks all, sorry for so many questions, but if you can help it would be deeply appreciated.
thanks.
Oscar.

1. When you roll a D3, you roll a D6, and the results 1-2 count as 1, 3-4 count as 2 and 5-6 count as 3.
Can't answer q's 2 and 3.
4. Not so sure about infiltrate (I just came back from a 4-month break...), but when a unit Deep Strikes, you choose where you want the unit to land, you throw a scatter dice, and if you get a hit result, it lands there. If you get an arrow, however, you roll 2D6 to see how far from the place you wanted the unit to land it scatters. It also scatters in the direction the arrow on the scatter dice was pointing to.
5. If you mean Chaos Daemons, then you divide your force into roughly 2 halves, then deploy one of them, then summon the other half by Deep Strike. If you mean in general, then you put your units down in your deploying area (it says what it is in the mission description - if you're just playing a random battle though, I think it's up to 12" from your table edge).

Not to appear rude but.... You have read the rulebook haven't you?
It's true there are a few weird situations that the game can throw up from time to time that aren't covered properly by the rules, however, all the questions you've asked can be answered by just looking them up in the rules/codex.

ok, some of these are pretty basic rules in the rulebook, which i can't quote verbatim, but...
1. Don't play orks. Don't know. EDIT - a d3 is a d6 halved (rounding up). So you roll a regular die and then 1/2 = 1, 3/4 = 2, 5/6 = 3. This way you get a number between 1 and 3 using a regular die.
2. Turbo boosters is a Universal Special Rule (BRB p76). Essentially, all bikes and jetbikes have it. They can make a 24" move in their movement phase, but can't do ANYTHING else that turn. In the next player's turn, they get a 3+ cover save to represent the fact that they're moving so fast.
3. There are only three different missions - Seize Ground, Capture & Control and Annihilation. BRB page 90.
4. Infiltrate is a Universal Special Rule (BRB p76) and Deep Strike is a Mission Special Rules (BRB p94). They are completely different. Infiltrate allows your unit to deploy outside your deployment zone. They can be put anywhere on the board as long as they're 12" or 18" (non-visible or visible) from the enemy. This represents them sneaking forward before the game. Deep Strike on the other hand represents people arriving in the middle of the battle. The unit is not deployed at the start, and then you roll a dice to see if they turn up at the start of each of your turns. If they DO turn up, you can place them anywhere you like, but they have to be in a certain formation, and they may scatter (which could be dangerous). On the turn they arrive, they can't move or assault, but can run and shoot.
5. Deployment is detailed on BRB p92. You roll for deployment type exactly like your roll for mission. In most variants, you deploy everything in your deployment zone before the game begins (but in Dawn of War deployment you only deply a few units, then most of your army arrives on the first turn). The only units that deploy DURING the game (i.e. after the first turn) are units in reserve or units who are Deep Striking. You roll a dice to see if each of these units turns up at the start of each of your turns. The Reserve and Deep Strike rules are on BRB p94
Hope that's helpful

Well the 5th edition is the one with th red picture on the front. All the answers to your questions are clearly explained if you take the time to read the rules in the first place. This forum is not a subsitute for bothering to read the rules yourself.
1. Its a D3, the rulebook will tell you what a D3 is near the beginning when it talks about rolling dice.
2. Lookup turboboosting in the rulebook and then you'll know what it does... in the universal special rule section.
3. Since the rulebook tells you what it is a million times why don't you look at it once and find out?
4. Both these rules are explained in your rulebook...who'd have thought! In the section just after missions it explains how to use these rules.
5. It works like it says in the rulebook... you might have noticed a bit of a trend in my answers, theres a reason for that...

Welcome to 40K!
Question do you have a GW shop near you? If you do, you can go chat with the staff and they can either have you play in some demo/mega battles to help with learning the rules or they can set aside some time to help you and your brother go through some small games. This is a great way to learn the flow of the game. It is best if you read a few of the rules first. Don't try to read them all or to master them all. Until you need them.
If you don't have a shop nearby, The Battle for Black Reach set also has a scenario book that helps introduce you somewhat painlessly to the rules.
Enjoy!

Go to the nearest GW of local gaming store and get an intro-game.
All the questions asked are easily answered by either actually reading the rulebook or having a go at an intro-game. More the former than the latter.

gentlmen I am closing this thread at this time as asked and answered. My own input.
1. It is ok to ask stupid questions. I ask lots of them.
2. Read the rules. Get in some intro games as recommended. If that doesn't clear up, then re-poste your remaining queries. Once you've read it we are here to help clear up uncertainities, suggest strategies, armies, even league or new mission ideas.
But read the book. Also look up the reference sheets on the GW and other websites which are helpful, and also in the back of the basic rulebook you have.
