I don't know if this in in the right section, but whatever.

So, today I played against a guy who was dark elves. His magic phase was unbelievable. His sorceresses cast spell after spell, and when he would run low on power dice, he used another spell to generate more. As you can understand, I ran out of dispel dice and so he just kept on casting.

My questions are thus: Can wizards continue to cast spells, so long as they have power dice? and do the dark elves even have spell that lets them get unlimited power dice? Actually, can someone please just explain how the dark elf magic phase works and how to beat it?

Thanks for the assistance

edit for clarity

All the sorceress' have a spell that gives them D3+1 power dice and one usually has a dagger that lets them sacrifice a guy for an extra power die.... so they throw out a ton of spells. Just focus on stopping the spells that you really can't let through. Magic resistance is also good.

Yes DE have a spell and items that generate more power dice. Also they dont have a limit on how many dice they can roll for a spell like most other armies. For instance if a lvl 1 really wants to she could roll 3 power dice. U cant stop all of a DE magic phase just try to stop the nasty ones from getting through. Also fear the ring of hotek.

No, a Dark Elf Sorceress can't have an unlimited amount of dice. The Power of Darkness spell, just like any other spell, can only be cast once per Wizard per magic phase.
The item Sacrificial Dagger allows a Sorceress to sacrifice a model in her unit in order to add a Power Dice to a spellcast attempt.

As usual against a magic heavy army, you will have way less Dispell Dice then your opponent will have Power Dice. You have to make sure you know the effects of all the spells your opponents Wizards have. Usually, there will only be 2 or 3 really devastating ones. These are the ones you will want to dispell, either by using Dispell Dice (risky) or by burning a Dispell Scroll.

Do people generally run heavy magic DE lists + Ring of Hotek? I would imagine that the Heavy Magic Lists would try to stray from the Ring.

I do. I use the ring to protect my hitty units from getting toasted from magic. It'll usually be in with my Excutioners on a flank with a hyrda and black guard. while on the other side of the table are my casters.

Makes sense. My DE player friend tends to like to keep his casters spread out, so he tends to opt against it.

Thanks for the responses, they are very helpful.

Airmaniac: Where does it say that in the rulebook? It makes sense, but I just want to be able to show it to my opponent when he tries to cast the same spell several times.

What exactly does the ring of hotek do? I've heard that its good, but I don't know any of its effects.

The ring makes any doubles cast at or from the 12 inches surrounding the ring bearer miscast. On ANY double. And yes, this is stupid good for the points cost.

Quoted for truth. I don't think I'd *female dog* about this item if it was only a 6 inch radius from the ring bearer.

Page 107 of the BRB, under Casting Spells:

In a player's magic phase, each of his Wizards on the battlefield can attempt to cast each of his spells only once.
