Every week I play in a 1000 pt tournament where I play as Daemons, and last week I played against a very good VC player and lost.

The list he's running includes something like 20 Grave Guard with all sorts of banners and gifts where they have regeneration, armor saves, +1 to hit, with ridiculous strength and weapon skill to boot, to the point where where his Grave Guard was able to slice through my block of Plaguebearers, who themselves have regeneration...pretty crazy considering these guys have stood up to a steam tank before. On top of that he would use Invocation of Nehek every turn to bring back most of the wounds that I caused. The problem I have is one of points denial, in that his entire army would be this huge 700 or 800 point block of nigh unkillable Grave Guard with a coupe of heroes in it and two small units of Ghouls and that's it.

Here's an approximate list I use in our 1000 pt games:

10 Bloodletters (Champion)
w/ Herald on Juggernaut (Armor of Khorne)

6 Flamers of Tzeentch (Pyrocaster)

14 Plaguebearers (Standard , champion)
(Standard of Seeping Decay)
w/ Herald of Nurgle (Noxious Vapors)
(Standard of Chaos Glory: 12” Stubborn)

The game was close, but for the life of me I just couldn' t cause enough damage in six turns to wipe out his Grave Guard, even after my Daemons wiped out the rest of his army by the time that happened and I was able to surround his death star the game was over before I could cause enough damage to get the points for the unit. My Flamers do have flaming attacks but with WS2 they aren't going to be hitting much, and although my Plaguebearers are good at not dying for most of the game, but they didn't do many wounds either. And it seemed like by Bloodletters were too busy chasing down the rest of his army to get in kills in against his Grave Guard.

I was thinking about maybe using Screamers next game, since his army doesn't really have any shooting and automatic strength 5 flaming attacks just from flying over them seems like it would be really effective. Other than that I'm kind of at a loss...How do you kill the unkillable unit? =p Any advice would be helpful, since I'm going to be playing against this guy next week ^_^

Burn them and first chance you get kill the vamp with the regen banner. Ditch your stubborn banner and get more numbers if you wanna fight that unit head on.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General

Ditch the Chaos Glory.
Pick up the flamestorm blade on the Khorne herald.

Go with a wider frontage on your bloodletters.

Anyone who throws that unit in 1000 pt games is a tool.

That being said...
flaming sword on the khorne hearld is a must.
Charge the guy (and his bloodletters) into combat in such a way that he is in B2B with the BSB.
Then accept any challenge with your champion (dont issue one) and beat the BSB down with your hearld (will take a round).
Once that is done they are easy pickings.
The flamers might be WS2 but the grave guard are only WS3. If the guy is using the helm of champions they go to WS6 or 7 but can easily be stopped by engaging that guy in combat with anything (hint hint, add a few furies for that critical turn).

Okay, so maybe instead of the Stubborn BSB I would do something like this:

10 Bloodletters (Standard, musician)
Herald on Juggernaut (Armor of Khorne)(Firestorm Blade)
6 Flamers of Tzeentch (Pyrocaster)
3 Screamers of Tzeentch
14 Plaguebearers (Standard, Champion)
(Standard of Seeping Decay: Re-roll failed wounds)
Herald of Nurgle (Noxious Vapors: Always strike first)

Basically use the Screamers which fly to go & hunt down his Vampire with the helm of champions so his Graveguard are only WS3 or 4, and so he can't spam invocation of nehek and bring his unit back to full strength every turn.

I have a question though....does his Standard give that unit Regeneration, or is it the character?

It's the Standard.

What does your opponent's list look like?

Here's the list he was using from what I can remember:

10 Ghouls
10 Ghouls

Varghulf

Vampire (Helm of the Commandment)

20 Grave Guard
w/ Wight King BSB (Drakenholf Banner: Regeneration)
w/ von Cartein

Which Carstein is it?
