Print ShareThisDeveloping: A tsunami warning has been issued after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific Thursday, 130 miles from Tonga and 300 miles from Fiji, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

"It is not known that a tsunami was generated," Reuters quotes the U.S National Weather Service's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. "An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami."

The quake reportedly had a depth of of 6.2 miles.

They should probably give a time stamp with the earthquake, tsunami travel fast.

And the wave will keep moving until it hits land, even all the way across the pacific. The west coast of the US could see a tsunami in 6-8 hours. Yay Kansas!

@Frazz: Only if you think that free minis are going to be washing up on the beach. Then being in Kansas (Or Texas for that matter) not so great.
@ShumaGorath: They may just be holding back because they are afraid of causing panic. The earthquake that caused the Dec 04 tsunami was not that powerful and look what it did.

I say post it in News and Rumors. If nothing happens you can delete it in a day or two.

In two days a tsunami would be able to travel nearly 30 thousand miles (at 600mph). If this was going to destroy a coastline it likely would have done so by now.

Then don't post it. Whatever.
