A quick flip throught the eldar codex will show you eight or so different craftworld schemes. They are all pretty much two main colours with one covering most of the body and the second covering just the head. If you're starting from scratch, pick a warm, bright colour for whatever you want to cover the largest area, then a dark but complimentary colour for the rest.

You could just type the names of the different craftworlds into google image search.... I'm pretty sure you'll find a guardian and/or vehicle for each one. Try: Alaitoc, Saim-hann, ulthwe, iyanden, yme-loc, altansar, biel tan, lugganath, il-kaithe.....
Happy hunting

Tyranical,
The codex has a lot of information that's pretty much necessary to play Eldar in 40K as well as having great depictions of the 'Eavy Metal painting style for Eldar craftworlds.
You might try picking up a used 2nd or 3rd edition codex on the cheap if you're not ready to shell out for a new one. E-bay and Half.com are good places to check.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I'm quite new to this painting stuff, i haven't done it since iw as like 12 and back then i only used to paint base colours.
I've undercoated the body mechrite red, if i overbrush a lighter red such as red gore over the top of that, will that create the shading in the gaps i'd want? and then highlight with crimson gore (crimson gore is an old red don't think they make it anymore)
I don't really understand this shading and highlighting stuff, i juse use flesh wash on skin and thats about it. lol

If you can post a couple of pics of your models, that might help us a little.
With re: to highlighting and shading, take a look at Grandmaster's Eldar above, that is a great example of highlighting. Notice the lighter grey lines painted along the edge of the armor. With your mechrite red body, you could paint a thin line of blood red or blazing orange along the edges to highlight the model.
For the shading, if you again focus on the shurican catapults above, look at the barrels. Notice the brown along the length of the 'sight', that is shading. A slightly darker color in the recesses. You can paint those, but the easiest way to do it is to buy the new GW washes, they work a treat for shading.
Hope that helps.
*edit* take a look here http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dakka_Modeling_FAQ:_Highlighting
It explains some of the basic concepts you're asking about - in the article, it refers to highlighting as "edging".

@Tyranical69: After the mechrite red, paint the armour panels with blood red, use a devlan mud wash (seeing as you seem to have some of the older paints; if you have chestnut ink use that instead), then put a few highlights on the armour plates with crimson gore.
Additional: I miss chestnut ink :(

Grr. It is the most amazing fix all product for red shading ever created. If i had a blood angels army to paint, i'd happily pay £5 for a pot.
To make the helmet stand out, it is best to paint it a light blue colour (ice blue is good) then paint pure white over the top, leaving the blue in the recesses. It will take a few coats of white (thin it down!) and a bit of patience, but the result is worth it. If you simply don't have the time, just give it a thinned down blue wash/ink, don't use ot straight from the pot

I take it you need to apply ink when its still a flat mechrite red? i didn't do it and i've highlighted it all up now, if i apply the ink its gonna ruin all that isn't it.

No, if you thin the ink (about 1 part ink to 4 parts water) it will pool mostly in the recesses and give you some shading without destroying the overlying highlights. You can add the thin coats many time until you get the desired look.

You can try shading it with a very thinned down blue ink/wash. My preferred way to paint white is a light blue/grey first, then shade up to white using lots of very thin coats of skull white.

Finished that 1 now, it looks alright i think going to start another 1 now could someone write a brief step by step as to how they would paint a guardian and what colours they'd use along the way? Doesn't have to be a red one any colours will do i've got most of the colours.
