Just some rule clarifications, I'm planning my CSM army purchases...

The CSM Codex says on p.61 that "the greater daemon possesses the body of either a champion, aspiring sorcerer, sorcerer of chaos, or chaos Lord to enter the game".

RE: "Champion", does that include unit champions, variously called Aspiring / Plague / Noise / Skull / Biker / Possessed / Terminator...Champion? This would mean that you could have nearly any unit upgraded champion turn into a Greater Daemon. Which would be nice.

Same page, "if the possessed model was engaged in close combat the Greater Daemon is placed as close as possible to the spot it occupied, but at least 1" away from any enemy models".

RE: the 1" away in melee, does this mean tha the GD is not in melee and can now charge in during the assault phase after appearing during the move phase from reserve?

Yes and yes. It can possess any aspiring champion, and if you have a squad of 10 terminators that are all aspiring champions, it can possess any of them too.

And yes, it is no longer in cc and can charge back into the cc it was just in, or can charge something else. Just can't move in the movement phase.

Aman, if you need to hunt characters simply use a bike champ to host the greater daemon, get him into combat with the desired character / annoying thing, then enjoy, kinda of acts as a fast delivery system for the daemon.
