So Im looking towards a list for 500pts and/or 750pts Tau army, Ive started painting the battle force contents, and would like to use that as a base.

1 XV8
3 Stealth Suits
12 Fire Warriors
12 Kroot
6 Gun Drones
1 Devilfish

Pretty much any other models in the army are available, 'cept Sky Rays, but I hear they're so-so anyways, so no worries!
One possible stipulation Id like to keep is that the Devilfish has the Smart Missle System, and that the Gun Drones are a unit of 6.

Please help me start my progression of the Greater Good!

Well, I'm not a Tau-player myself but 80% of all games I've played might have been against them.
For giving you some hints on what's possible you should tell us, which way you'd like to play. Mech? Lots of Kroot/Vespid? Stand and shoot? Suits? Check out your dex and take a few minutes.

Give people a couple of days before asking why no one has commented on your army. For what you have right now, a squad of fire warriors with fish and the kroot are your troops. Use the stealths. For the XV8 add plasma and a fusion blaster. I am firm beilver in the hammerheads, so get one of those and use the railgun. Broadsides can be useful. I use gun drone squads and find that having them at the max of 8 is better than smaller squads.
What you have right now can make a good 500 point/750 point army, so make one and post it. It is easier for us to give help if there is a list to look at. Hope this helps.

Under 1500 points, it's hard to make a 'great' army list, since there's a lot of rock-paper-scissors due to the small point sizes.

My suggestion is to buy a second batteforce, some Kroothounds, some Hammerheads or Broadsides, some pathfinders, and some more crisis suits.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Stealthsuits. They're nice, but not as good as Crisis Suits and take up the same FOC slot.

Yeah, get a lot more suits.

You also need some HQ, get a crisis suit commander.

I would suggest getting 2 Hammerheads, some pathfinders, and more firewarriors and d-fishes.

But it does depend on how you want to play. A hammerhead is usually neccasary however you play though.
