The Bowling Alley

I am currently playing an apocalypse size Undivided Chaos Space Marine army and couldn't think of any good background for why they're banding together against my local community of players other than just for the sake of killing...

so I thought...

"yeah... mindless killing is cool and all... and what other reason do they need?" for chaos at least...

anyway...

So I put together a faction background for what I call the Legion of Lost Souls...

because the emperor of man has a connection to all souls in the warp due to his incredible psychic presence correct??

Almost kinda like a soul "safety net" keeping them from becoming corrupted in the warp right??

so if a legion of marines were to believe that if they killed the emperor, they could break that net...

therefore letting their dark lords feast upon all of the lost souls now flowing to the unprotected warp...

well my faction also believes that if the dark gods feast on souls... they become more powerful...

and if they gain enough power... they can break their intangible bonds and then be birthed forth in the material universe and reign on high as the lords of chaos...

so I'm bringing all the god specific armies together AND giving them a mission to kill the emperor (like all the other factions) AND giving them an excuse for mass slaughter...

sounds reasonable right???

any major holes in my logic???

cause if there are please help fill me in...

I would be much obliged...

I think the emperor can help some individuals against the powers of the warp but he certainly can't save them. Ships have gellar fields around them to protect those inside from the power of the warp and anyone whose soul is exposed to the warp is lost forever.

All the countless millions who have been lost to the warp are gone, their souls consumed by whatever things make up the warp.

But you are talking about a bunch of marines who have been corrupted by the lies of the warp so they can believe anything they want; their minds are twisted away from reality to begin with.

I'd say cadbren has it right by saying that CSM are pretty out of their minds. So really, any type of logic could be twisted for their use. Will your troops have specific enemies who stand in their way?

not generally...

my friends and I have been currently playing a tau campaign...

but thats obviously not going to last forever...

I guess I could have them believe so crazily that it would actually do something...

they may be wrong...

but its worth the old college try to go with the good ol "kill the emperor and a couple trillion people along the way"

I'd say less "safety net", more "lighthouse".

The Emperor can't really stop the chaos gods from getting to you, but he does act as a beacon away from the darkness, or so the ecclesiarchy would say.

Kill the Emperor and they'll be lost to the warp.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.
