Okay, right of the bat, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this, none of the Warhammer 40k ones seemed to fit.

Looking at the fact that I can get AoBR terminator squads for $6, I've been contemplating making a Deathwing army. I've mainly been wondering what I would need aside from a codex, four AoBR termy squads, one or two Dreadnoughts, a Dark Angels chapter upgrade, and a Terminator Captain (to make Belial).

Aside from help deciding what to buy, if anyone could post give me links to their Deathwing army lists, I'd appreciate it greatly.

I have ran the deathwing since the 1st DA codex first came out. I can tell you what I have learned from MY experience. Shooting is the way to go. TH and LC are great but you should have very few to none in a DW list.

The deathwing excells in mobile firepower. The entire army moves and shoots with no penalty, landraiders not withstanding. They can all hide behind a single piece of large cover. They are resilient vs shooting if you have the heavy weapons to shoot it out with your opponent, namely ML, Twin Las. You can stand up to shooting with LR's, Termies and Venerable dreads. At 24in range they are deadly to troops. Closer than that you can assault with your termies from landraiders. Or combine your assaults for maximum effect.

They are a tricky army to play but very rewarding. Assault is deadly for the DW. With limited numbers and hidden power weapons and fists galore you tend to lose battles of attrition. But you can make small assaults go your way. You will feel every termie that dies.

My list

HQ: Belial

TR: 5 termies with SB and PF. One with ML.
TR: 5 termies with SB and PF. One with ML.
TR: 5 Termies - 2 LC - 2 TH - 1 Sgt
TR: 5 Termies with SB and PF and ML.

EL: VEN dread with twin lascannon and ML
EL: Dread with twin lascannon and ML
EL: dread with twin lascannon and ML

HV: Land raider
HV: Land raider

If more points then I usually add a land raider or more termies or even a Vindicator. The abundance of ML help a great deal vs ork hordes. Lots of frag tend to put the hurten on. This has worked for me and I have won many tournaments with them. But make one mistake and BOOM your dead.

Hope this helps. While not truly fluffy vindicators are your friend. Also if you like deepstrike you will need ravenwing bikes to get the maximum effect out of it. Otherwise I usually never deepstrike with the deathwing. They are better suited to concentrating all their fire power at one target till its dead then moving on. The only time I ignore it is if I plan to assault it and know I should win.

Above statement is true. I play some deathwing and what he says about assaults are true. I find 5 termies having trouble winning against 15 orks and a pk. It takes alot of practice and skills, but is cheap and fun (especilly when a 40 model army beats a 250 model one.) You may also want to think about Death-Raven. Its much more flexible and forgiving.

I think a terminator army is cool to look at and when it comes together and is used well, can beat allcomers, the only thing i would say is avoid combats with enemy special characters with power/force weapons as theyl strike first and potentially knock your marines with pf down before they can react. Ive seen a jump pack equipped chaplian bring down two terminator squads in two turns before?

victory needs no explanation, defeat allows none. ultramarines 15000 pts
