Hey Dakka.
I recently put together my AoBR orks and threw them into a few games. As my friends play only Tau (focus on FW, Suits, and vehicles), I'm having trouble dealing with those Tau at the 500pt level. I wanted to know if there was any advice to be had.
To not make this a purely personal thread, I would like to further discuss potential tactics of a mostly footsloggin force of orcs vs Tau in general.
Over the past week I've put together a 1500 pt list based around this. 3 21-man units of boyz (with nob/power klaw) slog their way up the field screened by 2 18man units of grots. There is fast attack support via a few units of deffkoptas with rokkit launchas, and a unit of nob warbikers accompanied by the warboss on a bike. The koptas and bikers speed ahead to take out priority targets early on and tie up enemy forces, while the bulk of the troops advance on enemy positions or objectives. I also have a unit of Lootas in there to give em hell as well. I would like to point out though, I did not design this list to be anti-Tau. It was more a force that will be used in any case, but I would like to know how this might fair against Tau.
Any others have interesting strategies?

Mobility is everything when fighting the Tau. I can't offer any Ork-specific advice, but I'm going to venture a guess that Stormboyz, Deffcoptas, or Bikers is what you need. The only chance you have at running down Suits is with jump infantry, bike infantry, or APC mounted infantry. Otherwise, they can lead you all over the place and constantly deny you the assault, shooting at you all the while.
There's nothing worse than slogging it a full 36" into the enemy zone, just so they can load up in Devilfish and fly off, laughing.

You need some trucks and bike. If not you are going to be dead. Personal i play tau and ageinst that list i would take my 2 hammerheads and pound the first grot screen with subunition rounds then play mop up with one squad of firewarriors and use my second squad to start putting the hurt on the squad of boyz. Then next turn rinse and repeat

No, that makes perfect sense. The Tau philosophy is to trap the enemy at arm's length. An enemy that can run the gauntlet, deny Tau mobility by matching it or neutralizing it (or surpassing in the case of bikes), and deliver melee to the gunline is doing exactly what they need to do.
Tau are simply MADE for massive fire-zone trapping. An enemy who can't respond other than to keep running slowly into the trap is exactly what they want.

if you want to go against tau then i suggest a wave system of boyz.
take full units of boyz.
a mek with KFF in the middle of the army.
ghaz is great for this due to the extra 6 movement you get from him.
with this you just need to go heavy on boyz and cover, with enough the tau wont be able to kill everything, all it will take is a single unit of 10 boyz to ruin a tau gun line.
snikrot also works great against tau, since they will deploy far back against orks to maximise shooting snikrot becomes even better.
max out a unit of kommados, 2 burnas and snik, they should do more than enough to either kill a large section of the gunline, or atleast draw some shooting.
