I've found numerous tutorials for the process of dipping Tyranids. (Why wasn't that around when I played mine?!?) Anyhow, does anyone have any pictures of actual results of brushing on the dip instead of actually dipping them? Any help would be highly appreciated.

well, the point of dipping is so you get a full and even coat. And part of the process of dipping is getting the excess 'dip' off. I don't have any pictures, but I have seen them first hand and a dipped model is fantastic looking, it creates it's own shading.

Use water based stain. Some things are too big to dip, like vehicles. I brush on the stain, but it is a little darker if the vehicle cannot be flicked. So, I have used a little water to thin the coat on the vehicle. Works fine for Ork vehicles.
I repeat, use waterbasd dip. Less color choice, but soooo much easier to use. Brushes clean up easy, too.

Actually, I think dipping looks kinda dumb when you pick up the model and look at it. From 3 ft away, it looks good, yes. But close up, not really. Just my opinion from what Ive seen. And I guess to address your topic: If you want a "wow" reaction when someone notices your army, and a "Hmmm" when they pick it up, try dipping. Its quick, and relatively easy. If you want a "wow" reaction and then a "Damn!" when they pick it up, find another method to reach the result.
