Was looking through the codex and I was wondering if it was possible to field 2 Brood Lords for your HQ choices?

The reason I ask is because in its list it says Brood Lord 0-1 as the header for the unit. However, many of the other creatures your can field ie. Lictor, Zoanthropes. Say that you can only field one squad per Army, but the Brood Lord listing does not.

Thanks in advance.

If the Unit name Says 0-1, you can only field 0-1.

The reiteration in the Lictors and 'Thropes is just that, reiteration. It's also more needed because the Unit rules let you take up to 3 as a 0-1 choice, so I suppose its there to clarify that the three take up a single slot rather than 3.

Luckily GW are moving away from these Silly limits so Expect a new Nid Codex not to have any of them. But as of the 4th ed Codex, Broodlords are indeed a one or none situation.

No problem.

And just to throw in something useful for anyone who may not know, a Broodlord with Genestealer Retinue cannot under 5th edition capture objectives, as they are technically an HQ choice, not an HQ+Troops (even though the Genestealers are a "Troops" choice, the retinue takes up a HQ FOC Slot)

Wasn't that something of a given? I mean, other HQs often take troop retinues and they count as just that, retinue units rather than troops. Doesn't this also allow an HQ to not be singled out as an independent character, but rather an upgrade character from the retinue? Can't remember where I heard that from, though...

I think you read it in the rules

Yes, having a retinue (rather than just joining a squad) means he cannot be picked out in CC like other IC's.

The only reason I mentioned it is because Broodlords, along with that tau Special Character, can take retinues that have the statline of Troops Choices. While that didnt make a difference in 4th, I've had more than 1 player ask "Surely this can take Objectives cause they are troops arn't they?" so I thought I'd just throw that out for ya'll

Okay a seperate question but kinda fits. Say the Broodlord is for what ever reason killed before the unit (Vindicare, or what have you) do they revert to being a troops choice?

Nope, they were bought as an HQ, they remain an HQ.

Nope, they remain an HQ choice, as kindly pointed out by don_mondo.

AKA a stealer shock army. Yes, yes, you can.

Yes, one would be bought as a Retinue for the Broodlord and would not be able to capture objectives.

Also note that should the Broodlords Retinue be wiped out, he reverts to being an independent character, and at that point can be picked out in assault, even if he joins a Troops Slot unit of Genestealers.

Edit: Damn American Ninjas

And yes, a Stealer shock army can be pretty nasty. Will Die horribly if the enemy have anything with rear Armour 14 though, but you can get 66 Genestealers all with scuttlers (6 squads of 11) along with Broodlord and 11 Stealers for 1500 exactly

London (work) / Pompey (live, from time to time)

the rules explain themselves pretty well

broodlords are a single character, so the 0-1 shows you can only take 1 at the most.

other things like licks are in units of 1-3, with the 0-1 restriction that is on the unit rather than models.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.
