My army ADD has brought me around to the Black Templar. I think this one may stick. I took a look at some of the plastic kits available, and decided that the first thing I would work on is making my Emperor's Champ, given that he is the one model I know I will always be fielding.







Bits used:

Runefang from the Empire General box
Kneeling legs and head from the Space marine command squad box
Tabard, backpack, and bolt pistol from the Black Templar upgrade sprue

I am not quite happy with the sword atm, as it is a touch crooked, but I would appreciate any feedback on the concept and potential ideas for the right arm. Originally, I wanted to have him with a bowed head and his right fist against his chest as if praying, but couldn't get the look right. At any rate, I'm pretty happy with him atm.

You know I honestly really like the look of this model. I think the crooked sword kind of throws it off *try clipping the tip off so that it looks like its buried into the ground a little.

It looks alot like hes receiving his prayer of the moment ( or vow I forget which it is) Great job and id love to see him painted up.

I think this would look a much better model if you gave it a great paintjob. Otherwise, it's a good conversion.

i like the model, but the only thing i dont like is the sword.

2: seems to lack some detail.



why didnt you go with the standard champion model?

Yea, tell us, why didn't you just buy the regular emperor's champion model - I personally love it...

there are 3 variations of the champ model to chose from

standard release one is around £8
older one (sword to the side) is around £12
or the ltd edition one (two handed sword) is around £20

I didn't use any of the standard champs because I generally avoid using stock models for my HQs. I wanted an Emperor's Champion that nobody else had.

I've repositioned the sword so that the angle fits better with his hand.

Kudos for not using a standard, off the shelf model no matter how nice they are !! This is the stuff that makes the hobby aspect so compelling ... seeing someone elses take on a typical model.

I agree i never use stock HQ myself gives your HQ its own personality , Except for guard which i use special characters to represent officers but the new plastic command box ' s will change that .

Nice conversion I really like it I would love to see it painted .

It's great it looks just like he's about to take on some hideous beasty after kneeling in prayer. I also really like the big sword. Possibly using a pin through the hand and into both the blade and handle would keep it from looking crooked.

You know what goes fine with a good conversion, a good paintjob.
Please paint them that is the only way to make them even cooler.

Honestly I liked the bolt pistol one better. he seemed more natural.

They will have their paint Soon (tm). First, though, since I have yet to ever paint a Templar before, I am going to do up a couple of Initiates to get the feel for the robes and stuff. I mean, I know generally the technique to do it, but I want to look at color and whatnot.
