Just a quick overall list I scribbled down the other day, utilizing the new IG Codex rumors we've all been hearing about. I've left out points values, but it runs about 2500 points. Let me know what you all think -- thanks in advance for the C&C.

This is a pretty rough outline of the list, with most of the small upgrades and points left out.

The plan -- simple as it may be -- is to have the Russes form a firebase, around which the Heavy Weapons Squads and Infantry Squads would form up. The Command Chimeras (CCS) would hide behind the Russes, giving orders and milling about. The Platoon Command Squads and their Chimeras will either act as redundancies should the CCS units die, or will be 1xHF and 2xFlamer units that fly forward and torch incoming units (Their Chimeras will probably have a Turret HF if they do this). The Devildogs will be mobile anti-tank, supported by scouting Sentinels.

I think the 12 Lascannons and 4 Melta Cannons will be pretty good AT, and the Autocannons and Plasma Guns should be able to handle anything too dispersed for the Battlecannons, but I'm concerned about assaulting units and the army's lack of mobility. Should I opt out of Troops and lean more toward a Mechanized list, or am I better off fielding boatloads of Guardsmen in a traditional gunline?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

It's very much a traditional gunline list. You do have the Devil Dogs for mid-field action, but I think, particularly for a 2500-point list, you need something specific to take care of assaulting units. You can either go:

a) Counter-attack - Rough Riders are still good for this. I would take them over Scout Sentinels.
b) Tarpit - while you can mob up your Infantry squads pretty well, I would recommend giving at least one of them a Commissar. Maybe even dedicate a couple squads with Flamer and HB with a Commissar to hang out front of your line of AC/PG squads.

Personally, I don't think you have enough pie plates for a 2500 pt Guard army - this will be killy vs Meqs, but I think heavy mech and horde will give it a rough go. You've got 4 Melta Cannons, but they can only fire on 2 units at any one time. And lascannons just don't have the tank-killing firepower that they used to. If this went against a tank-heavy IG army, I think it would be hard pressed to disable them quickly - you'd probably spend most of the game trying to take them out.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Only 3 russes? I would consider taking more. the firepower of taking 6 would be insane. Other than taking more pie plates, this looks good. Dont forget to layer like crazy to make this un assault able.
