Subject: how do you equip your wraithlord ?

greetings !
today i was asking myself : how should i tool up my wl ?
cc or ranged ?
i don't like him for cc , because he only got 2 (!) attacks at ws4 . that won't do ANY damage .
so i guess i should tool him up for ranged.
but which role should he fulfill ? anti inf or anti tank ? nead your oppinions.
also i kinda figured that a wl with only shooting weapons would look kinda gay , so could anyone post a pic of such a wl ?

I run EML + BL and they pop tanks to great effect. However, you need to run at least 2of them...eone just isn't that effective.
They can also work great of CC if you take the Wraithsword and run them in an Elfzilla list, with an Avatar. 3 attacks on the charge, rerolling misses at S10 is pretty scary...especially when you have 2-3 together as well as the Avatar.

hmmm well against enemy commanders he is a very cheap and potent assasin.
2 of them could probably kill a squad of termis on the charge.
but isn't taking 2 of them a rather stupid idea ? then you only got 1 slot left . then you got to decide which to take : falcon , fire prism , or dark reapers

EML + BL is probably the most common/best for tank hunting.
If i ever started eldar and used WL, I would still model him with the wraithsword, just because it looks cool and adds a bit more flair to the model.
Elfzilla...lol

That is kinda the point....
Either you go heavy with the Wraithlords (and/or Warwalkers), or you go heavy with tanks. There is not alot of mix and match in the Eldar heavy slots. Prisms need other prisms to work to great effect, and Wraithlords need to be taken in multiples just for saturation of targets. Finally, Falcons only have one real use nowadays and that is to stick 5 DAs in them to make a tough to kill scoring unit. As for Reapers...no, just no...not in todays meta game, because they are stagnant.
Also, about out your question of anti-infantry heavy weapons on WL...don't do it. They are overcosted. Either hunt tanks with them, or go CC. I like to run 2x EML+ BL Wraithlords, and one sqaudron of SL Warwalkers. The Lords kill tanks and the Walkers kill infantry (and they do it for ALOT cheaper than the WLs).

hmm well the prism neads to be in a team which is kinda cheesy ... dark reapers , well there are other units that can kill marines just as fine. war walkers for anti inf ? hmmmm ... 3 with sl/rocket ? could work and wraithlords are relatively cheap and VERY durable . also , what does stagnant mean ? expensive ? BUT I STILL WANT A PIC !!!!!! ( sorry )

Stagnant means in one place for too long. Ponds have stagnant water because they don't flow anywhere, for example.
So stagnant troops stay in one place for too long and don't go anywhere. In the case of Dark Reapers, you need to stay in one place and not move in order for them to be effective. This makes them vulnerable to many things.

As I go against a lot of Orks, EML+Scatter Laser is a very fun combination.
My heavy support is often:
2x Wraithlords with EML+Scatter Laser
3 WarWalkers with Scatter Lasers
My Wraithlords are ranged, but what I do is I have them behind my Guardian squads, so the Wraithlord acts as a very nice deterrent for enemies-T8 does that to you.

right , that would make reapers pretty lame as they could get killed by any ds'ing squad or a vehicle coming straight at them

yeah that should be a pretty good combo , how would wl and war walkers be in a mechanised list ? the cc lord would just go up to the enemy and kill the commander . the enemy would rather shoot the serpents than wasting shots on a wl. and if he does , then my units would survive longer , thus , making the points of the wl's back

Never mix weapons on a Warwalker or in the squadron. Give all 3 Warwalkers Scatterlasers and watch thngs die Trust me, 24 S6 shots a turn puts a hurting on all MCs, infantry, bikes, and light vehicles, especially with Guide on them. The only thing they won't be a threat to are vehicles with AV13+...which is why you have the two EML+ BL Wraithlords

hmmm I personally hate flamers on a walker.... I think they are ridiculous...
Is this a pathetic attempt to get people to stop putting flamers on their walkers that end up wiping out large mobs of boyz as they can walk up to them with relative impunity and drop a large template that hit around 10 guys at point blank range ... or as they slowly whittle away at my fearless mob, as the only defense is 1 nob with a PK (so in other words a WS4 wounds on 4 with three attacks)... Nah
But now that the Scatterlaser is out of the bag... I am kinda glad that the walking platform of death does not wield one... go flamers on walkers

Huh?
Eldar walkers cannot have flamers of any type...I dunno where you are coming from on this one.
Now, the Wraithlords, which are MCs, can and usualy do have 2 flamers on them. Of course, there are completely free and are in addition to the 2 heavy weapons or the Wraithsword.

I run two different wraithlords.
One is the previously mentioned EML+Scatter Laser combo. This guy is great at busting light vehicles, and putting some wounds on everything from horde units to SM bikers.
My other is a bright lance/Sword combo. Many people do not like this combo as they don't like to "mix" CC and anti-tank roles, but I'll give my reasoning for it.
For a wraithlord, CC IS anti-tank, so having re-rolls to hit fast moving vehicles is very helpful.
Also, with the shift in the metagame towards having lots of AV 14 vehicles the bright lance is an essential (although unfortunately not overly effective) weapon to have in your list. Against AV 14, adding an EML shot to your bright lance is not actually going to improve your chances against the vehicle significantly, so the Bright Lance/EML combo is not actually that effective at the role that you want your bright lance platforms to be performing.
Therefore, the bright lance/sword combo is one of the most efficient bright lance platforms in the army, and adds a bit of CC flexibility.

EML plus BL for tank hunting all the way.
As Alerian points out, a list with Wraithlords will probably have 2 or 3 WLs and less other HS choices. It's also probably an advancing foot list rather than mech. Such a list probably has less anti-tank firepower than a mech list, so your WLs need to be kitted out for anti-tank ranged fire. Being BS4, they are better platforms than Guardians, Vypers etc. for single-shot weapons.
As for taking a second antitank weapon ( EML) alongside the BL, it's generally a better idea than the sword. Although it costs more, you get several things. First, against AV14 a second shot is still better than CC rerolls. Second, not all the armor you face will be AV14- the EML gives a second chance to stop transports and light armor before they get their cargos far forward. Third, you get some versatility against infantry, should all vehicular targets be gone.
If you're just going for looks, the sword's pretty hard to beat In practical terms though, 2 CC attacks, even with a reroll, just isn't enough to give up a ranged weapon for, especially if the enemy has powerfists.
Finally, note on "Elfzilla": It's not a CC list. It's an advancing foot list. It needs fire support, so BL/ EML is best there as well. It also includes lots of Guardians usually, so anti-infantry fire is already taken care of (scatterlaser platforms).

so you are saying i SHOULDN'T take them in a mech list ???
but if they are weapon platforms they don't nead to keep up with the rest of the army . they just walk 6" and unload all their weapons on a vehicle . and the flamers are pretty cool against hordes .

Wraithsight is a biatch that comes around at the worst of times. The problem with running wraithlords in a mech list is that you won't often have a psyker within 6".
On the otherhand, I like to run a unit of storm guardians with a warlock mounted in a serpent. I'll often give their warlock spiritseer because the wraithlords are usually following behind their tank anyways.

I usually equip mine with a bright lance. Cheap, and it has BS4, so it won't miss like guardians will.
In Apocalypse games, I use a more close combat oriented one- 2 flamers and a wraithsword. It's a beast for 100 points.

Because he'd probably get shot by an autocannon and instakilled. Also, Eldar HQ slots are gold, and you should strive to get more use out of them than making a wraithlord 20% more accurate (an estimation).

Also, if the new IG rumors are true, we will soon be seeing squadrons of tanks in their lists. The EML+ BL combo is great for taking on such lists, as one Wraithlord will now have the chance to hammer two tanks in one shooting phase
As for dealing with Wraithsight, as other have mentioned, your best bet is a Spiritseer. Even my Mech list isn't fully mech, just because I love my WLs. My mech list runs as a hammer/anvil, with my attack force as the hammer in Serpents, while my Anvil is made up of Guardians, WLs, and WWs. I upgrade the Guardians' Embolden Warlocks to Spiritseers, in order to babysit the Wraithlords, while the Wraithlords in turn protect the Guardians.

Generally speaking hammer/anvil is where you take a chunk of your army (the less mobile part) and have them take up most of the enemy fire/assults. While your speady elements get around to the rear/flank and then you catch them in a crossfire or nasty assults.
For eldar you take your tough as nails units (WL, WG, Avatar, Pathfinders, Seer Council) and some juicy targets (guardians, pathfinders, other) and put them in one part of the board. You then mount the rest of your force in WS and get them into your opponents backline. You then catch them in the crossfire/assult.

At 500 points there is very little overall tatics that can work.
Really depends on how you build your list. and on the rules for the 500 point games. What i mean is are you still using the HQ + 2 troops requirment or is it just 500 points no FOC restrictions?
