Hey guys! I've seen a few conversions of this toy around the internet, and I couldn't help myself. This is a Droid AAT from Star Wars Episode 1 and The Clone Wars animated TV show. It's going to be a Super Heavy Tank for Apocalypse games, complete with a Destroyer gun and 3 Ion Cannons. I figure it will probably end up being worth 600-700 points by the end of construction, mostly likely 13/13/11 with 3 structure points and a BS of 3(4) with a Targeting Array.

See my Blog for more pictures and review of the toy.

Wal-Mart, but you'd better hurry because I think they're being phased out. Like I said on my blog I got the last one after going to two different stores. You can always find them online, however.

Wouldn't the staff in your GW get pissed about you using other brands? My local almost had a fit when I suggested using LOTR parts on 40k models...

I really should be spending my time more constructively.

Might want to try Asda; I believe they are owned by Wal-Mart. Or Hobbycraft.

not really, if you make it subtle, but i think just sticking some guns onto a big tank would be pushing your luck.

also, i think your local gw staff are just a little too harsh.

You're telling me. I think they're fitted with batteries and come with 25 pre-programmed phrases.

Anything else you need? Brushes? Glue? Have you seen the new White Dwarf?

This usually irritates me slightly but the other day I bought some scenery and did actually nearly walk off without glue.

That looks great. Is that the standard Railgun or what?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Maybe I'm just being naive but I can't imagine someone being irrate about using the wrong brand of plastic models when they aren't even playing, I guess if you came in with a big box full of models that are from a direct competitor of GW and started talking loudly about how great a quality they were you might have some problems but that LOTR/GW story just sounds sad.

Yea, I had an extra Hammerhead sprue to use as well as some Ion Cannons laying around. When I make the data sheet the railgun will count as a Destroyer gun, which means +1 to the superheavy damage table and auto penetrate when you hit against a vehicle. It will probably be a 600-700 point model when I'm done.

i would recommend converting it a lot heavier though, simply so it doesn't look like you slapped tau guns on a toy, y'know?

I like it so far, here are some of my suggestions:
1. Add something to make the attached ion cannons look like they belong
2. Maybe some drones on the front
3. If you have the tau apocolypse upgrade thing, like a sensor think, then add that to it
4. Maybe adding hatches of some kind, the devil fishes disembarking ones look good

But looks great so far

@OP- for Drone Tanks those are absolutely sweet.

I was toying with a twin gunned turret on an Orca.

I was thinking of using a SkyRay Wing/turret to produce a twin Ion cannon turret thats still carrying markerlights and missile(Ultimate air defense when I set the ions to pivot with the wing on the vertical axis). The seekers would have improved warhead options that I might go into at another time. Then there would of course be the obligatory missile pods and finally burst cannons or sms systems mounted underneath.

The other Turret set up would mount twin heavy Railguns
on a modified hammerhed turret(Or one of the FW twin gun turrets). I want to figure out how to work in Airburst grenade launchers and plasma on this one.

What do you think? Think its worth attempting?

IsnT an orca a pure dropship?
Would it fit to mount heavy weapons and keep transport capacity?

@ OP:

the "droids" look interesting, maybe add some bitz to break up the star wars design?

@1hadhq-

Sorry, I forgot to state the most of the transport capacity would be lost. Maybe room for some drones but thats it.

I was thinking in Terms of converting to create a Tau like super-heavy tank.
When you look at one just imagine one of those turrets set on the circle on the top of the vehicle. To me, the Orca just screams load me up with big guns and make me a super-heavy tank.
Then write appropriate super-heavy rules and there you go.
