Subject: Question about Tankbustas

Tankbustas have to move towards, shoot at/assault any vehicle in their line of sight, due to glory hogs.
If you have them inside a battlewagon, does the wagon have to do the same?

No the wagon is free to do whatever you want it to do.
Also, it's not any vehicle it's "enemy vehicle"
and they don't have to move towards enemy vehicles. They must assault them if they're able but there's nothing in the rule to indicate that they must always use their move to get closer.

the rule is on page 42 of the ork dex for those who need a page reference.
I cant seem to find anything rules wise that says the can avoid their glory hogs rule, perhaps if there are no firepoints or they cant shoot if the vehicle moves to far they could avoid it. As to the battlewagon it doesn't have the "glory hogs" rule is I believe you could move it however you would like, but the tankbusters inside would still have to shoot at tanks if they are allowed to fire.
Like I said I can find no rule besides the "glory hog" rule in the ork dex.

As has already been mentioned, you never have to use their movement to get closer to an enemy vehicle, all you must do is attempt to shoot at the closest enemy vehicle and/or assault the closest enemy vehicle.
If they are in a transport during hte shootign phase and it moved over 6", then they cannot shoot at all, so they get around Glory Hogs. If they are embarked during the assault phase, then they cannot assault, so they get around it, too.

A common misconception, the glory hogs rule says they must always attempt to shoot at and or assault a enemy vehicle that is in sight regardless of the range. You do not have to shoot the closest. Also in case it comes up Bomb squigs DO NOT need LOS they only need to be within range.
The BW or what ever transport they are in does not suddenly get the glory hog rule. Glory hog is very simple, the bustas always have to shoot OR assault an enemy vehicle that is in LOS regardless of range, being that you can run instead of shooting they can basically ride (run) around all day until you know you are in range. But no the wagon dosent have to move/shoot at a vehicle, you can even have the vehicle shoot at different targets than the passengers.

You are indeed correct. While you don't have to shoot the Closest, that's what most people will shoot at because most of the time they will be out of range
Now here's a new question, since you must shoot at a vehicle in LOS, and can only choose to not fire or fire at something else if there is no vehicle in LOS, does this mean Tankbustas cannot run if in LOS to a vehicle?
I say no they cannot run since they must shoot (even if out of range) and so precludes them from ever running instead.

it depends Gwar.
in thier entry for the rule it states that if out of range or no line of sight then they may select a target as normal.
when selecting a target as normal it would mean they have not fired that turn, thus allowing them to rnu instead.

it has come up, but basically the general concensus (dont know anyone who argues against it, I brought it up to a couple of people just out of curiosity) is that you may always run instead of shooting. I dont know of anyone who argues this rule but I suppose if someone wanted to they could, however being as you move in the movement phase and shoot in the shooting phase, running is theoretically a "shooting" action. It happens in the shooting phase and you may always choose to run instead of shooting. They can choose to run, however you must attempt to assault an enemy vehicle, it dosent say they have to move closer to an enemy vehicle.

not true, it specifically says they must shoot at and or assault an enemy vehicle that is in LOS REGARDLESS of range. So in the case where you can see a vehicle but know you are out of range you run instead, again it dosent say you have to move closer, just assault if possible. So you move 6" wherever you want, run d6" wherever you want, now if you forgoe shooting and your movement takes you within 6" of an enemy vehicle you must assault it you cannot choose not to assault if you are in range, but you never have to shoot at or move towards an enemy vehicle. However it is a bit counter productive for tankbustas not to move towards enemy vehicles as this is what they are designed to do. And being that a predator or whatever is more of a threat than a rhino Im going to run towards the predator and bypass the rhino.

true enough gob smaka, but it also states that if no unit is in range or line of sight then they may shoot as normal.
which would indicate that if that was the situation the unit has not fired at any point, thus meaning run is still a viable option.

no it does not, it specifically says regardless of range, check it again. But you can get around it by running, however you cannot choose to shoot at a squad of marines if a vehicle is more than 18" away, your only recourse would be to run instead. If there is a vehicle on the table the bustas MUST always attempt to shoot at and or assault the vehicle. In no way can you choose a non-vehicle target unless all vehicles are wrecked or destroyed. So if you have a landspeeder sitting in a corner 48" away from the bustas and it is the only vehicle on the board you have to choices. 1: shoot and miss because its out of range or 2: run. Being that you will always be out of range unless you get closer to the speeder your only real option is to run towards the speeder. Or have something else shoot the speeder down thus freeing up the bustas. But they must always go for a vehicle if there is one on the table, this is the glory hog rule.

Glory Hogs: Tankbustas live for the really big kills.
they must allways attempt to shoot at and/or assault an enemy vehicle if there is one in line of sight, regardless of range.
if there is no visible vehicle to target, the Tankbustas may select a target as normal
touche, i apologise as i read this wrong and didnt see the "regardless of range" part.
in which case i do now agree with you on this.

no worries. you can however block their LOS if you have big enough vehicles, but its rare, better to just use them for what they are and enjoy shooting 13 rokkits at stuff. Now if your opponent hides his vehicles because they are little sissy la-la's then have fun shooting at marines with str8 ap3 assault weapons. the vehicles will come out eventually.

rare unless you like a cheap trick or 2 , this is where a trukk (blagged from da boyz) comes in handy
drive to where you need to get, then deploy the boyz behind the trukk, using it to block LOS to any vehicles
leaves you free to shoot then

Well doesn't the regardless of range part mean that if there is a vehicle in LOS they have to declare they are shooting at it, therefore they cannot run? Since you run instead of shooting, and the unit has already shot at the tank (and automatically missed)

no you can always run instead of shooting. If for instance there was one lone vehicle on the board and you know you are out of range and your opponent tries to weasel you by saying they must shoot, you reply and or assault, so I run for d6" and in attempt to assault regardless of wether ot not you are in assault range. Now if there are mult. vehicles you either shoot or if out of range run to get closer to one. basically, its something Ive never seen something try to pull on a unit of bustas and if someone did it would be easy to get around. Being that you can shoot through units and all you have to do is see a portion of the vehivle its pretty hard (especially with a trukk) to not draw LOS to something. A BW would be easier because its not full of holes but still hard, especially with the itty bitty BW's someone going to draw LOS. Unless you spend 15 minutes trying to position 15 models so no one can see anything, in which case you would get metal figs chucked at your head after about 2 minutes and if in a tourney most likely get dinged for poor sportsmanship.

no...they have to declare shooting if they can see an enemy vehicle. They can never run, unless there is no enemy vehicle in LOS. That is why it is so important to use a transport for Tankbustas...I prefer a BW, others like a boyz truck or a looted wagon.

da gob smaka: You missed the point of the and/or part there. The and/or isnt "you get to pick" it means you must shoot and assault if possible. There are sometimes where you can do one but not the other and vice vera. That's why it says and/or. The simple fact of the matter is if tankbustas can see one (1) vehicle and its 80 billion inches away, and there are no other tanks in LoS, they MUST declare shooting at that tank, even if they would miss automatically

I agree. The rule clearly states that they MUST fire at a vehicle in LOS.
If they forgo shooting at said vehicle in order to run, they have most certainly violated what the rule tells them exactly to do.
