Hihi i have a question. The previouse edition Saurus units get 1 extra attack on first rank with the bite attack.

But the current edition shows they just have 2 attacks on their stats.

Does that mean every saurus including 2nd rank gets to have 2 attacks with spear?

If i put 6 saurus per rank, would that give me 24 attacks with spears ( assuming i didnt charge then its 12 right? )

still witing for my book to turn up (over a month now)
but if it does not say anything about the rule then yes, all have 2 attacks and the 2nd rank can also attack.
meaning a unit with a 5 wide rank can do some serious damage.

Woo.... that means its more effective than temple guards! hmm lets see...



Saurus x 15 with spear is 180pts [20 str 4 attacks]
Temple Guard x 15 is 240 pts [ 10 str 5 attacks hmm....]
Kroxigor x 3 = 165 points [ 9 str 6 attacks ] ( pretty sure not wasting a special slots on this.... throwing it into skink units -_- )
msu Coldone x 5 = 175 [ 15 str 4 attacks when not charging , nice 2 + armor save o_o , stupidity ]

Makes cold one look really nice to have now... minus how ugly they are.

funny isnt it how it works out?
not sure if it was RAI, but if it does not state they lose the attack when given a spear then they get to keep it.

havent read the book for a while now, but dont cav. with spears get +1 str on the charge rather than fighting in 2 ranks?


also, if you want fun get a merc. regiment with pikes
from what i remember they fight in 3 ranks thanks to the pikes.

Yes they do get the +1 str on charge , but for averaging the number i leave those out .

Now to convince my cousin to like lizardmen! he likes vampire counts and darkelves, but hates lizardmen / skavens guess he find it hard to get used to animal / human hybrids rofl. so i gave him a box of zombies.

all in all, saurus used to be a good match for chaos warriors, now the slaughter them

Hmm JD what do you think about this unit:

core troops:

24 skinks 120 points 3 kroxigor attached 165 pts total 285 points
hd weapon + shield for the boo 5+ save :"/

so basically... 6 str 3 poisoned attacks with 9 str 6 attacks.

Downside: saurus is better! skink is T2.... unit cannot turn.
Good side: They look cool , expensive both point and money wise. ( minor ranged attacks with javelin.... lol )

i think that the unit is a bit too big, it just becomes clunky and gets in the way all the time
im still a fan of skink skirmies

after this about the saurus i way be swayed and get some, they are alot better just with this little change

i love the larger blocks of saurus infantry with spear now. i run 2x20 with HW and one of twenty with spears. i dont like the kroxigor skink unit much though. i still run skirmishers exclusively

Yes i have decided to give up on thinking they are a cool looking unit.
i'll just tell myself they are cute in a dumb way -_-:

Also i prefer purchasing battle forces , which is why i was complaining about them in the beginning.
If i bought units separately the problem wouldn't have occurred.

I'm curious about this, I have a hard time not putting spears on my saurus. That's simply because it doubles your attacks when you don't charge, or every subsequent turn after the first (which usually occurs, because Saurus aren't really capable of breaking units by themselves) for 20 points. The loss of the +1 parry bonus is a shame, but nothing compared to Temple Guard using their halberds; trading a 2+ save for +1S and a 4+ save? I can only justify that on T6 monsters, to double the chance of wounding (since they're gonna get massacred anyway, shield and parry or no).

Defenstrator: saurus will last more than a turn in combat with anything unless they wipe it out, the initial charge with saurus will do well, then next you get even more attacks, meaning saurus are pretty tough to tar pit


ranked up skinks are great, allthough they would be better if they were a bit cheaper points wise.
keeping the general near will allow them to be an ok tarpit unit, allthough dont go expecting them to kill much in HTH.

skirmishers on the other hand
use them to fire, run away, fire, run away (you get the idea)
due to multiple shots and poisoned blowpipes they do cause alot of damage, and against greater daemons, giants, anything tough for that matter, they will kill it fairly quick.

i started using chameleon skinks against my friends daemons simply so i can fire over 150 poisoned shots and kill his thirster in the 2nd turn once in range.

I have to agree on the love of skinks; my club tshirt has "my precious skinksessss" on the back!

The main thing with skinks is to remember: 6s to hit at most. Anything mroe and the unit is not effective. this normally menas single shots on the move (at long range) but double at close range. Chameleons are nasty - get a nice roll and you can topple giants in one turn...just try to avoid the topple!
