I now have 3 more armored cars done!

These are early war soviet cars

with the turrets left off and turned into storage space. in games they will just be terrain, barring special scenarios.

I also found some appropriately sized die-cast trucks that fit in well

I'll have to repaint them to cover the PLA markings though.

hmm...right now they look a little out of place, but that's probably just because you didn't paint them yet.

I would also suggest to add a guy looking out of a car somewhere, that would help a lot too.

I've already said it, putting just something like a skull on it won't 40K-ialise it.
You really need to make them look more heavy and gothic or they won't fit in with the rest of the models

I like them alot. My only complaint is that truck. It looks to round for the imperium. I swear they never understood how to make rounded things. Or welding for that matter lol. Other then that your on the right track nicely done

I really like them. Yes, you could 40kalize them some more but Im not sure its necessary. The round shapes doesnt bother me, I think its cool with the sleak design.

Now paint them!

Specifically what could I do to 40k them?

Thicker tires is the most obvious but as far as I know there's no where to get them except buying bikes just for the tires.

Maybe replace the round fenders with squared off ones.

Anything else jump out as an option?

I know the first is gonna sound weird but:

First, I'd ditch the skinny tires and canabilize some tires from the marine bikes. If thats cost prohibitive then something else that has meaty gnarly fat tires with treads that look like steel plates. Turning them into half-tracks would be cool also.

Second, there looks to be too much in the way of fuel cans and crates on them. I know they are intended as a convoy but somethings off. I think its the lack of a dedicated cargo space.

Third, to fix the second, pull the cargo beds off of the diecast models and put them on the more angular cars?
If you don't want to do that how about scavenging a couple of deuce and half models for the beds.

Fourth, Convert some of the packs or boxes into radios with antennas or some kind of obvious communcation equipment.

Fifth, I like the armored plate concept. Have you considered do more of them?
If so, how do you think ones that come to a point in the center would look?

Sixth, KingCracker had a point about the roundness. If you make the armored plate come to a point in the front it gives you the chance to make the front fenders angular by either using the old rear ones(If you use the cargo bed or half-track ideas)or scratch building from plastcard.

Seventh, Convert some weary/wounded troops riding on them. Give them running boards for those "special scenarios" where you might want to have troops hanging off the side(HHmmm, drive by's

These are just a few ideas. I hope there is something in there that you'll find interesting or useful.

what exactly is the terrain the convoy is on? Care to share what it is and where it came from?

The industrial corridors terrain are these interlocking gundam display bases I picked up in Hong Kong. I've seen them in China as well so a good Japanese model shop ought to have them.

They cost me about $5 each and are worth every penny.

Focusedfire, thanks!

I'll look for some toys to cannibalize for fatter wheels, that seems to be everyone's number 1 complaint. I can add more front plates and maybe a dozer to one. I have one rider planned, and I can add a driver popping out of a hatch to #4 which I haven't started yet.

I dind't go with half-tracks to emphaise they are civilian transports, not military. Same reason I have some stowed guns but none mounted.
