Those napoleonics are tempting me to build a quick, affordable empire gunline army.

And you can always find a use for the farm. Somehow.

Does anyone know how they stack up to Empire gunline troops sizewise. ie. any pictures?

The farmhouse is OK but it would be hard to fit it into the rich imagery of the fantasy/40k universe. For example you'd have to add a skull.

Actually that might just do it.

Pure win !

On a more serious note, I take it these are the same perry borthers that used to sculpt for GW?

Anyone happen to know if their 28mm scale is the same as GW 28mm scale, which really isn't 28mm, more of a 32mm steroid induced type of scale ?

If they look good next to GW figures, I just found my next IG Infantry Platoon.

Couple of points here, not to be a jerk.

1st, this news has been out for a LONG time already. Not only have the Perry's had American Civil War figures and then French Napoleonics out for some time, they just recently expended the line and released British, as well as announced the new War of the Roses line of plastic figures. The new British release and the previews of the War of the Roses figs were THE NEWS of Salute this year.

I know this is Dakka Dakka, but Table Top Gaming news, The Minatures Page, Perry's own website, Steve Dean painting forum, and even Warseer has had this info out when originally announced. They've been commercially available (form Perry and the Warstore, on their site) since October 22nd of last year.

The first public pics (literally the same ones in this thread, which are being expressed as news, along with more pics of the specific sprue contents) were released by the Perrys in multiple outlets on Sept 24th of last year, two days after their initial "sneak peak" announcment that they would be venturing into plastic Napoleonics of similar caliber to the preexisting metal lines. That was over six months ago.

The latest commercial releases are the Perry British, which were 1st sold at Salute. Pictures of those sprues have been available online for about a month now. The original concept greens were released on October 8th of last year. Similarly, the farm house was first shown by the Perry's and publicly announced online in February.

2. The minis are actual 28mm scale, not steroid infused 28s reaching for 32s

3. Same Perry Bros. They have been sculpting for a long time. They still sculpt for GW, having done nearly all of the LoTR minis for them, as well as others. They also sculpted for Wargames Foundry, and have had their own historicals line for many, many years.

Again, not to be a jerk, but I'm always kind of amazed at how insular the GW gaming world is. This stuff has been out there for a long time, and garnered a LOT of attention from historical painters and gamers. I mention it to exclusively GW gamers occasionally, and they're always surprised this stuff exists- and they tend to like it. Just a friendly suggestion for GW gamers to look around more- much like Kid Kyoto has done by posting this stuff.

It's like when GW released plastic Lootas. I'm sure the historical gaming community was right on top of that, being that they have little to no intuerest and use in them, even though they are pretty cool.

Having seen these figs in person they will look small and thin in comparison to GW's fantasy humans. They are nice scuplts though, if you like napoleonic uniforms.
The cav would look odd alongside any of GW's Guard as rough riders, like children on ponies.

LittleLeadMen, there's actually been several threads on the Perry Bros. current historical plastic sets on Dakka in the past few months. However, this is the first that included what I'm assuming are new or at least newish photos of the entire boxed set contents. So while yes, the fact that the Perrys are releasing these sets isn't really "news" to anyone who's been paying attention on Dakka or elsewhere, these pictures have up until now, not been seen here...so that's good enough to warrant a post as far as I'm concerned.

Personally, I'm pretty excited about the new Napoleonic British line infantry coming out. I'm guessing that they'd be perfect for the War of 1812 project I've been thinking about starting for the past few years.

The sculpts definitely are very cool, and I think boxed sets like these ought to open up Napoleonics, ACW, etc. to a lot wider of an audience.

While I'm sure your comment was meant to be fun and snarky, there's actually an element of truth in historical painters expressing wider ranges of interest compared to strictly GW gamers. Sites like Steve Dean (as did the Miniatures Page , which skews decidedly more towards historicals) showed the Plastic Lootas when they came out, much as they do the other main GW releases, in addition to the historicals. The simple truth of it is that GW gamers are more likely to not be aware of the width and depth of the historical miniatures world.

Second, with regard to the snarky comment, one of the crucial things that it misses is context. GW releasing another plastic line for an established race is interesting, but not necessarily groundbreaking. By contrast, the Victrix and Perry Napoleonics releases have been some of the most important leaps forward for historical gamers in decades, making it extremely affordable to paint and play napoleonic gaming in 25/28mm (due to the extremely high figure count required to play most historical scenarios at even a 1:20 ratio). It's a truly groundbreaking thing for that world and is being treated and discussed as such. That's an essential difference in this discussion that's overlooked by a comment like yours.

That's because they're properly proportioned figures, unlike the overly exaggerated features in heroic style sculpts. Those sculpts tend to oversize heads and hands, making them easier to paint and see. And, as mentioned before, these figures aren't meant to look good alongside with GW Guard figures, etc. They're meant to fit alongside the pre-existing Napoleonic line that the Perry's have sculpted, as well as the earlier figures that they did for Foundry. They even said that they wanted to do their lines to "fill in" gaps in the other company's line that were not represented.

The Perry's provided pics of the sprues and the individual minis.

Here are series of the minis on TGN: http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2009/03/16/24577

As well as pics of the sprues on their own site: http://www.perry-miniatures.com/salute2009releases.htm

At 42 for $25 (or more than 42, I think you get extras) they're probably as cheap as pig iron or west wind.
