Hey Guys!

This is my first attempt at the following:

- A WIP blog/thread thing
- Creation(ish) of a terrain piece (not from scratch)

So please let me know if something I am doing is annoying/incorrect/needs improvement, and as always an ideas would be fantastic.

I got this piece at a convenience store for $10, figured it be a good buy for terrain

Ideas:
- Rip off the bar on the ground floor
- Rip off the straw roof and make a collapsed regular roof
- Create rubble on the base level
- Prime in black and then paint building in darker textured gray

Any and all ideas welcomed! I am new at this wargaming thing, so I have very little practical experience to go off of!

Thanks

Nice find, personaly I would remove the roof and various sighns, add some battle dammaged walls using plasticard, some sprue rubble and gravel on all the floors and surrounding area on the lower leval, rebuild the roof with apropriate damage, prime and paint.
Definatly would like to see what this turn out looking like.

I wouldn't have paid ten bucks for that. I would rather build my own buildings from scratch...

Check out my blog for examples.

Hey Homefries,

Nice find. Keep at it, and don't let the detractors get you down.

Here are some observations:

1) the building itself looks okay as a framework (ladders, floors, support posts)
2) there are areas that don't work due to scale: pylons, the the fence on the roof, the bar, and the chain on the pylons on the floor.

So, how do you approach this.

Look at some of the current plastic buildings, drawings, artwork of 40k for inspiration. I'd suggest maybe adding layers of plasticard along the outside of the building to act as walls. Then you can add details/aquilas/slogans/windows, doors, etc. That will give it a more 'modern' feel.

I agree about replacing the roof. You want something metallic looking, or modern.

You can add additional internal detail, just make sure the scale is appropriate for the models. Things like sandbags along the walkways, etc.

Finally, it has to be a different color, as you mentioned. The pastels hurt my eyes

On the flip side, this would be a great starting building for Mordheim. It definately fits that aesthetic better.

Good luck, keep us posted with updates. Don't be afraid to mock something up and put it up for comment!

Thanks for the input guys!

Just as a note, I don't have my primer, or any brushes beyond the standard one for miniature painting, as well as no real tools except pliers, a screwdriver and super glue.

Looking at some 40k buildings in the forums and online I figured that this guy needs to look more...ruined I guess, so I've started off by removing the things you suggested Cruentus, specifically the bar, the fence, the straw etc. I will get to the fence on top of the building once I get some better tools as they were not going to budge, and would have destroyed the building if I had pulled any harder lol

Keep in mind that this guy still needs to be painted, because until it is it'll look fairly silly.

WIP pictures!!

Front with two guardsmen for scale

Side (nothing has really be done on this side)

Back (I put up little barriers/walls using pieces of the bar etc. I will fill them out as I get plasticard or sprues as rubble.

Other Side: (Same idea as back)

What do you guys think so far?

I appreciate the C&C and look forward to hearing more!

Thanks
