Subject: Are nid on nid games supported by the fluff?
I was wondering what people's thoughts on this are. Nids are controlled by the Hive Mind and I assume there is only one uber Hive Mind somewhere so how likely is it that two nid armies would ever face off against each other?

Maybe they could be pitted against each other by the Hive Mind in order to test out new evolutions or strategies.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

There could be plenty of reasons, as has been said. If nids fight nids, overall the tyranids don't lose anything, as they just consume the biomass.

I basically thought that the Hive Mind doesn't want fleets with useless or newer adaptations to go running off and get killed, and hence, lose any useful adaptations for the whole race. To solve this, a splinter fleet takes on another splinter fleet. The winner is obviously better adapted and gets more biomass so it can continue to survive and thrive. After all, Tyranids are all about Survival of the OMNOMNOMNOM!!!

Hello Guardsmen, look at your Leman, now back to mine, now back to your Leman, now back to mine. Sadly, your Leman isn't mine, but if they stopped using standard engines and switched to Lucifer Pattern, they could move like they're mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? Your in a battlefield with the Rhino your Leman could move like. Whats in your hand, back at me, I have it, it's the fire control for the Twin-linked Assault Cannons aimed at you. Look again, it's a Deep-Striked Land-Raider. Anything is possible when your Tanks move like Blood Angels, and not like Guardsmen. I'm on a Baneblade.

Well, Nids aren't all controlled by one hive mind, each Norn Queen acts as a sort of conduit. If there were 2 Norn Queens nearby, each fleet would be controlled by the others hive mind. Upon the death of one of the norn Queens, the losing nid fleet kinda starts to fail and then the other one goes OH NOMNOMNOMNOM! and gets lots of tasty biomass.
Of course, what you really wanna see is Orks Vs Nids.
Nids: They use their trix to accelerate Fauna/Flora groth so they have more to OH NOMNOMNOM
Orks: As a result, orks grow faster
Nids: Kills more orks
Orks: Therefore grow more bigger stronger orks
Nids: GOTO 20
So you end up with Ork Boyz the size of Land Raiders fighting 80 Strong Broods of Carnifexes in an orgy of OH NOMNOMNOM!

People tend to notice Pariahs. If you're in a crowded room with one, everyone's killing themselves.
Firstly to get it out of the way LOL to the NOM NOM song. I think tyranids would sound alot more scary than that but oh well.
Now. Tyranids wouldnt fight each other to see which one is better so they can evolve. Because Tyranids evolve to defeat their enemies, and Tyranids are not Tyranids' enemy [get the picture]. That why they have specialised carnifixes to take out vehicles because they adapt to that enemy. Secondly yes Tyranids are controlled by Norn Queens but they act as the first major nod/link with the Hive Mind, Norn Queens are not independant. I think the only reason Tyranids would fight each other [and they would because there is accounts of this in codexs and other places] is because they lose their connection with the Hive Mind, revert to their instincts [which is practically nothing] and basically got nuts and kill each other. They could attack as two seperate armies but its more likely that they would just kill anything and everything around them, which in this case is each other.

In the codex it talks about nids fighting each other to absorb any useful DNA taken from the loser. Even though the winner is the stronger hive fleet, it doesn't necessarily mean that the defeated hive didn't have anything useful to add. Suppose the loser fleet had taken evolutionary steps to counter anti tank doctrine that the winner hadn't yet absorbed. Now it has!
So yes, in-fighting is supported by the fluff.

In fact, it's not only supported, it's explicitly stated in the codex.....
However, I do have something to correct here:
Upon the death of one of the norn Queens, the losing nid fleet kinda starts to fail and then the other one goes OH NOMNOMNOMNOM! and gets lots of tasty biomass.
Upon the death of a Norn Queen, a psychic shriek is set off in it's death throes and the hive fleet starts to birth SEVERAL new norn queens...
Things I've gotten other players to admit...
